The Creation of Nintendo City
The idea for Nintendo City started on April 1st 2004. My Mom and I
went to my first concert. It was of my favourite band, the Barenaked
Ladies. It was a great concert.
We had to drive about and hour and half there and back to see it.
On the way back it was late and we were slowly, but safely driving
home.
My Mom and I talked about various things. I brought up the subject of
hosting, and how I would love to have some for a site. She said if it
was cheap enough she would buy it. This was amazing and great news to
hear, since I didn't have any money for hosting. For the rest of the
ride home all I could think of was starting a site. I instantly knew
it was going to be a Nintendo Fan site.
Well, to shorten it down, the next day we ordered hosting and a domain
name.
It wouldn't be setup for 24 to 48 hours though.
So I went to my room and tried to put together the start of a site.
I had no idea how to make a site, but everyone starts there.
The first thing I wanted to do was make a banner.
So I scanned a bunch of NES/SNES/N64 carts, as well as the cases of
some Gamecube games. I then cut out certain parts of the scans and put
them together into a banner.
I did all this in MS Paint, which I do all the graphical stuff for the
site, it may be basic, but it gets the job done.
After I did that I started to make the site.
None of the pages had backgrounds, for some reason I had pictured the
site with just blank white backgrounds. I then had to start making
some pages/sections.
I sectioned off the site differently back then. I envisioned when you
come to the main page, there are 4 main links. 1 for every Nintendo
console.
You would then click on a console and it would open a section
containing whatever I was going to have for that system. Whether it be
reviews, screenshots, trivia, shrines, it would go to the
corresponding system.
I still think it's not a bad way of doing it, I just changed it to the
way it is now a few days later.
Maybe one day I will all of a sudden section the site off the old way.
The layout, as you may imagine was very basic. As I said above, the
pages had plain white backgrounds. The links were all done with
images. These images were all non-transparent, and were also all
different fonts and colours.
It looked all pasted together and choppy, I sure knew nothing about
how to make
the look of a site.
Well, I had to think of a couple sections to have ready when I will be
able to upload.
So of course I had to have a reviews section, basically every Nintendo
Fan site has one. I had actually been writing a few reviews on my
computer for fun, so I already had a couple ready. I also thought I
could have a screenshots section.
I had/have a TV to PC adaptor; so I am able to play Gamecube on my
computer.
I thought I'd take advantage of that and make some Gamecube
screenshots of Super Mario Sunshine. The screenshots with this adaptor
I knew and still know, aren't the best of quality, but they are
original, and not just taken from another site. I always wanted
Nintendo City to be original.
Also, all the pages said that if you want to contribute to Nintendo
City, then please e-mail me. I wanted to encourage it from the
beginning.
Well, that's what I made on April 2nd 2004. I got it ready for
whenever I would be able to start uploading.
The next day, April 3rd, I was able to start uploading. I uploaded and
said
Nintendo City created today! I am very happy.
It's not much of a site now, but I hope that it will be soon.
I still feel that way. Nintendo City still has a way to go, it
will always be growing.
I am so glad Nintendo City was started, I love having it.
I cannot imagine my life without Nintendo City, its part of me now.
