For years Capcom and Nintendo have a had a wonderful
relationship.
If you look at the NES you will see many games developed/published by
Capcom.
Those were some of the best NES games made.
Then you go to the next generation of Nintendo consoles, the Super
Nintendo.
You saw a few Capcom games drift way onto the Sega Genesis, but the
majority of games were exclusive to the Super Nintendo.
The Super Nintendo was able to keep the Mega Man Series exclusive, a
series which started early on the NES.
Then the third generation of systems rolled in. Now with a new
competitor, Sony.
The Sony Playstation soon took the world by surprise, and took
Nintendo off the thrown as the top selling console company.
Capcom instantly took a liking to the Playstation, with there new
sleek system, and with there cool advertising that appealed to teens
and adults.
BAM! There goes most of Capcoms support for Nintendo.
At the end, you saw only 3 Capcom games on the N64.
And the Sony Playstation saw over 40 games developed by Capcom!
The Playstation also took the Mega Man series, which has been a
Nintendo exclusive since its beginning on the NES in '87.
With that, people thought Capcom was now a exclusively a Sony
developer.
Then the next generation of systems came out, and Nintendo manages to
get back some Capcom support.
You started to see Resident Evil leave the Playstation for the
GameCube..
You also started to see other GameCube exclusives, such as he hit game
Viewtiful Joe.
Yes, of course you still saw Capcom games on the Playstation and
X-Box, but Nintendo had won back an exclusive game deal with Capcom.
But sadly, Nintendo hasn't been able to wow Capcom enough to keep
them.
Capcom took a chance with the Gamecube, and has since regretted it.
Now you see Resident Evil being re-released on the Playstation 2, as
well as Viewtiful Joe.
Capcom is a worldwide leader in game developing. The Playstation 2 is
currently the number one selling system. So Capcom goes with them.
So sadly Nintendo has lost Capcom as an exclusive developer. They will
have to become number one again to win them back.
In closing, when you really think about it, Capcom was never dazzled
by Nintendo, or Sony. They just went with the number 1 selling system.
The NES and SNES were number 1 for their generation, and that is why
Capcom chose them. Then the Playstation became number 1, and Capcom
went with them.
Capcom will go where the systems sell.
So unless Nintendo becomes number 1, or truly has a system that is
revolutionary, they are going to have to say Bye Bye to Capcom.
Say Bye to Capcom, as well as a number of other developers.
