Is Pokemon getting kiddy since
R/S/E? By: Adam
I have reason to believe that ever since Ruby,
Sapphire, and Emerald Version, Pokemon has been getting kiddy.
I've done some "research" by playing the game and looking
through the guides that I have. I do not give 100% details,
such as what the bad guys capture. Not that it's been that
mature before, but it is too "nice and happy go lucky" than
before. Allow me to demonstrate.
In R/B/Y, your rival
disliked you. In G/S/C, he hates your guts and repeatedly
insults you, because he thinks you're a wimp. In R/S/E,
your rival is so nice, and not only helps you out but gives
you advice and has happy friendly battles.
Prior to
R/S/E, the main antagonists were Team Rocket, and boy were
they powerful. In R/B/Y you could defeat Team Rocket by
infiltrating their secret hideout or taking them out in the
hostage-filled Silph Co. buildings. In G/S/C they had a secret
hideout as well, even took over a radio tower to brainwash
Johto's Pokemon into doing their bidding and stole Kanto's
power supply. In R/S/E, however, Team Aqua/Magma are misguided
idiots who want to help the world. And what do they take over?
A mountaintop, an out-of-the-way underwater cavern, and a
museum.
Is it just me, or did Nintendo think that the
buyers of R/S/E had very little self-confidence? Everywhere
you go there are compliments, that just get annoying, from the
"wow you are really strong" to the "I really like you,
Brendan," to even the "He was the greatest trainer and his
summary of the battle 'Poop' was the greatest clincher ever
and he has such good things to say and his pokemon's last
move, scratch, is a symbol of its friendship with the other
pokemon." And for those truly wanting someone to love them
there's this annoying kid named Wally who adores you and looks
up to you, even though you're older. And, this takes the
cake. After you beat the Pokemon league, you will get FANS,
from people saying "you rule I love you" to even a
fangirl who screams your name and begs you to incessantly
shake her hand. R/S/E could be a virtual cure for
depression. Geez. in previous games you had a "wow, you
may have what it takes to become the Champion" at the very
most.
I do not know what Diamond and Pearl are like,
but I hope they do not follow this kiddy trend.
