More Than A Hobby
Ok, I’m Amatatomba and this is my first article on Nintendo City. Many people think video games are just a hobby. And as much as I disagree, it can be hard trying to convince adults. So, I want to share the following, as proof of what gamers have known all along. It is a letter that was printed in Volume 187 of Nintendo Power:
Dear Nintendo Power crew and all of Nintendo,
My older brother died in the hospital earlier this October. He and I both subscribed to Nintendo Power and played video games with each other. This was one of our bonds as brothers, and I would like to thank Nintendo, Konami, Sega, Atari and so many other companies that put so much soul and care into their games and systems so that friends and family had one more special way to show their love for each other. Gaming allowed my brother and I to spend valuable time together, and through it, he taught me important lessons: stay strong, take responsibility for your actions and never give up. Thanks again, all you great designers and everyone else in the video game industry, including Mario, Luigi, Simon, Carrie, Reinhardt, Samus, Link and Zelda.
In loving memory of big brother Ben (aka Mario), from li’l bro Alex (aka Luigi).
Alex W.
I wanted to share this letter with everyone at Nintendo City because it shows other, non-gamers that video gaming isn’t just a way to have fun, or a hobby either. It is a way for people to come closer together and have fun together. I hope this will show all those that think video games are just a waste of time that its not just about the graphics and sound; it’s about who you experience the graphics and sound with.
