The Chronicles of
Srevermore
Part Two
Written By: Shayn Davis |
Samus Aran walked into the bar, out of suit. Normally
she was covered by the bright orange and red suit when she was bounty
hunting, out of it she was an attractive woman with dirty blonde hair
in her mid-twenties. The place seemed to be a haven for all sort of
alien creatures from different parts of the universe, all of which
seemed to be shady. She was looking for a certain being in particular,
Anu Granvious. Rumor had it that he had connections to the dreaded
Space Pirate; Ridley. Granvious himself, however, was a more low level
drug hustler than anything else with a few murders thrown in for good
measure. Samus walked past the drunks at the bar, a few space pirates
among them, but she had other business. She walked up to the grizzled
bartender, who seemed human enough, except he had a third eye on his
forehead.
“Can I get you anything mizz....” he said in a gravely voice.
“No....where is Anu Granvious? I know he’s here somewhere.” Samus said
bluntly. Some people stopped their chatter and looked in her
direction., she could tell they didn’t like hearing what she had to
say, but she really didn’t care.
“You shouldn’t be talkin’ bout that sorta thing in here...” The
bartender said menacingly.
“And what if I don’t....” Samus said with a definite edge in her
voice.
“Then I’ll shoot you where you sit.” He said like it was nothing.
“I doubt that very seriously.” She said staring into his eyes.
Everyone in the bar had stopped talking now and were watching the
confrontation.
“You do now mizz?” he said reaching under the bar and pulling up a
plasma riffle like the space pirates use. Samus stared down the barrel
of the gun, and acted on instinct. She grabbed the barrel and pushed
it back into his forehead hitting his third eye.
“Ahhhhhh!” he screamed. Samus quickly grabbed the riffle, and turned
around to see that everyone in the bar had ran out the door. She
turned around to see the three-eyed man slumped behind the bar.
“Now tell me where Anu Granvious is or I’ll blow your head all over
that wall.......”
“He....He’s......” he stuttered.
“I’m right here Aran.” said the menacing figure from behind them. Anu
Granvious had walked out of the cold steel walls that had split open,
they closed just as quietly. He was a short figure, maybe five and a
half feet tall, but had on full body armor and a nasty looking hand
cannon. Under the armor, as Samus knew, was a sickly white, doughy
looking man, whose hair was a dark green, with bug like eyes that
glistened with a milky blue.
“You’re speaking more aristocratically than a dirty mobster
should....” she said still clutching the riffle.
“And you’re speaking too much for someone who’s about to have a lot of
holes in them...” Anu said sizing her up.
“I don’t want your bounty, all I want is information....” Samus said
trying to calm him down.
“Ha! Both would get me dead, and I’ve settled into a cozy little niche
in these parts.”
“I know you know about Ridley...”
“He got out of here months ago, told some of the higher-ups about a
big plan he’s got...”
“More Metroids?” she said, mostly to herself.
“I’m not saying nothing to a bounty hunter.” Anu said spitting at the
ground where she stood.
“Get on the ground....” she said calmly.
“I’d kill myself before I’d answer to the likes of you!”
“I wouldn’t doubt it....” with that, Samus fired the riffle at Anu,
the blue purple energy struck him full on, but with full armor, he
could take much more. He fired the hand cannon and it split in five
energy bombs, Samus easily dodged all of them. She ran forward while
it was recharging, and kicked him in the face. Anu stumbled backwards
and fell on his back, while Samus took the cannon away from him. She
ripped of the helmet that had only exposed his mouth, now showing all
of his hideous face. Samus pointed the hand cannon right at his eyes
and said...
“Now....tell me where Ridley is....”
“I d-don’t kn-now....” he stammered
“TELL ME WHERE HE IS!!!” she screamed in his face
“I don’t know!” he said sobbing
“That’s the wrong answer...” Samus then took the riffle, and broke off
part of the barrel leaving a small, jagged piece of metal in her hand.
She raised it to his forehead, Anu cowered closer to the floor. Samus
put the metal on him, and slowly carved her signature sharp “S” on his
forehead.
The blood poured into his eyes as he squirmed and yelled .
“Thanks....I’ll see you later...” Samus got up and left Anu Granvious
bleeding on the floor and the bartender still cowering in the corner.
She walked out of the bar and into the coldness the small planetoid it
was on. All off the other vehicles had gone as soon as she mentioned
Anu Granvious, but her small, yellow, ship was still right where she
left it. Samus climbed on top, and was drawn into the hatch. The rush
of light subsided and she was inside. She walked over to the pilot
seat and started it up. The familiar rumble jarred her a bit, but they
gave way to the smoothness of the thrusters. Samus didn’t really know
where she was going, but if Ridley had a plan there was sure to be
some chaos somewhere. She decided the first place to look would be the
Space Hunters Guild, it would be a good place to check for tip offs.
As she sped of she thought about the Chozo, the mythical beings that
had evolved beyond technology. They were responsible for her suit, it
was infused with their ancient blood. The deadly arsenal they provided
included a Charge Shot, Missiles, Ice Blast, Plasma Shot, the Morph
Ball, and the Grappling Hook, among some other weapons. Needless to
say she was one of the highest paid bounty hunters in the guild.
Samus sped through space, observing the different nebulas and stars
when her communicator started to bleep. She looked down to the small
monitor and saw the scrambled face of a small being wearing armor....
“Hel...brzzz...Hello....brzz?” the transmition asked statically.
“I’m sorry, this is a private line.” Samus said rather coldly.
“We....distress...brzzzz....crrrggg....help....brzzz...” the
visualization was almost totally lost in the static now.
“Where are you? Give me the coordinates.” she said, much more
interested now. The screen bleeped and the face disappeared and the
coordinates appeared, but they were very unorthodox looking. The place
the signal was being broadcast from was a very long way away, and
appeared on the screen as a yellow dot. There was a red dot, that was
where Samus was, and the trail between the two was connected with a
snaking pink line.
“Where is this?” Samus asked.
“Hur....brzzrgg... ry.” the coordinates remained, but the voice was
phased out and the static slowly faded away. Samus looked at the funny
looking map, pulled a series of levers and switches, and shot off in
warp speed. She had planned to just follow the map using the ships
navigator, but the red dot that was her ship was following the pink
line. Apparently there was also tracking technology in the distress
signal. She had nothing to do now but sit back and wait for her to
arrive at the distant planet...
An hour or so later Samus Aran, was startled by a powerful shake of
the ship. She looked out of the visor screen to see she was being
pulled into a planets gravitational pull.
“No!” she screamed and tried pulling up on the controls, but they had
gone dead. She rushed to the back of the ship, and put on her Power
Suit. If she had any chance of surviving the impact it would be in the
suit. She felt the intense heat of the entry, and was thankful the
ship had excellent heat shields, and then she wondered if that would
be the last thing she would ever be thankful for.......
The impact had absolutely totaled the ship, and Samus herself was
wounded badly, she prayed there was intelligent life here.
“Crawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!” a very familiar sound resonated around her...
“Oh, no...” Samus said to herself. The air smelled sour, and the gray
fog around her parted. She heard the sound of beating wings and she
knew that she was finished. Ridley had lowered himself in front of her
and cawed an evil sound she could only assume was a laugh. He took a
step forward, and Samus tried to raise her Charge Shot but the pain
was too much. Her arm was split with pain and it dropped to the
ground. Ridley let out another one of his evil laughs, and lowered his
enormous beak to her head. She could feel his hot breath as his teeth
slowly pierced into her helmet...
Samus awoke in a cold sweat. Her heart sounded like a drum being
dropped down the stairs. She was shaking and her hair stuck all over
her. As her breathing slowed down she checked the map on the screen,
she was than three quarters of the way there. The red dot that was
Samus’ ship slowly blipped on the screen. She decided to eat something
before she arrived at the destination. The small container beside her
seat contained three tubes of artificially flavored nutritional
supplements. One was a meat flavor, one was a vegetable paste, and the
other one was a sweet dessert type meal. Samus took the meat and the
vegetable and squeezed both of them into a small plastic bowl. The goo
tasted horrible but it was filling and very nutritional. After she
finished the meal, she put on the Power Suit, she was traveling into a
planet she knew nothing about and was in distress, it would have been
foolish to go there unarmed.
As the ship edged closer to this new galaxy, she noticed some very
strange planets. The first planet she encountered was heart
shaped,`and the second looked frozen. Samus passed a few more planets
before she was right on top of the yellow blip on the map. She looked
down onto the destination, and it was an enormous star. Not an actual
star mind you, but a planet that was in the shape of a star. It was
glowing intensely yellow, but beneath the glare she could see green.
The ship began to descend, altering its course slightly, she assumed
to get closer to the actual distress signal. A few minutes later Samus
could see mountains, enormous stenches of green fields and, off in the
distance, there was a thin line of blue she could only assume was the
sea.
Within a few more minutes the ship landed with a slight “thump” and
Samus walked over to the hatch. The light surrounded her and forced
her out onto the top of the small, yellow spacecraft.
Upon first look of the place there seemed to be a lot of green. Miles
and miles of field stretched across the landscape. There were a few
little fences that didn’t seem to connect, or hold anything in. Some
little blocks with stars on them were scattered about, some of which
were stacked on top of each other. Other than that there seemed to be
a whole lot of nothing. Samus jumped off of the ship and began to walk
in no specific direction. She walked for about fifteen minutes, and
saw something in the distance. As she got closer, she saw it was a
small green little blob with yellow bumps on it’s head. It looked up
at her with big eyes, and Samus couldn’t help but pick it up. It
looked harmless, and she wondered if it was intelligent.
“Hello, do you understand me?” She said loudly. The creature looked at
her, then seemed to get very angry. It screamed in a strange voice,
and then it shook violently. Samus was about to drop it when its body
flooded with an electrical charge.
“Ahhhhhh!” Samus screamed. Her hair frizzed inside her helmet, the
Power Suit was an excellent conductor, and her hand was blackened from
the electric current. When it had stopped, she dropped it and blasted
it with a missile. All that was left of the little green thing was a
black spot on the grass.
“Guess I’ll be more careful....” Samus said aloud. She walked on and
saw another one of the green things, she decided to steer clear of it.
About five minutes after seeing the second green creature, she saw a
small round figure at the horizon. The minutes passed and their paths
finally crossed. A diminutive figure that rose up to her stomach had
drawn a nasty looking sword.
“Are you answering my distress signal?” the being said.
“Yes. I am answering a signal from this planet.” Samus answered him,
she to had drawn a weapon.
“Then we are not enemies!” he said in a much happier tone, putting
away his sword. Samus lowered her charge shot.
“Good to know, what is your name?”
“My name is Metaknight. What is yours?” Samus looked at Metaknight, he
was short, and had a large mask over the whole of him. His eyes were
bright yellow streaks inside the armor/mask. He had shoulder pads that
connected to a long purple cape. His sword was attached to a scabbard
on his side.
“I’m Samus Aran, bounty hunter.” she said sternly.
“Well, it is a good thing there is no price on my head! Haha!”
“Is that your head?” she questioned.
“You know, I’m not sure...” Metaknight seemed to ponder on this for a
moment, then went back to the conversation.
“Well I’m glad to see that you are here.”
“You don’t seem to bee in much distress...”
“Hmmmm...well it is not only us that is in trouble, but perhaps the
whole universe as we know it.”
“How could anything possibly be that horrible?” Samus asked taken
aback.
“Come, I will show you...” said Metaknight solemnly. And they walked
towards the destination where the horrible fate that would soon befall
the universe begun....
