The Chronicles of
Srevermore
Part Three
Written By: Shayn Davis |
“Hey!” a small faraway voice
called. He had no idea where it was coming from, but he hoped close.
The things were getting closer to him now, and he could see them
looking down at him from the craggy slopes of the surrounding cliffs.
He could smell them, like rot and grease, the smell turned his stomach
almost as much as the fear did. The beating of their feet upon the mud
echoed throughout the canyon and it was speeding up. Closer....closer
“WAKE UP!” Diddy screamed to
the sweating and screaming Donkey Kong.
“Ahhhhh! Whoa!” Donkey had
abruptly stopped screaming in his sleep, mainly because he had just
woke up. “What happened?” he asked Diddy.
“How should I know? One second
you were sleeping, the next you were screaming at the top of your
lungs, that must of been some kind of nightmare...”
“Yeah... I guess so...” Donkey
Kong said. He didn’t even remember it now, but he was glad he didn’t.
The sun had probably been up for an hour or two now, and Donkey Kong
needed to go about today’s business. That being eating bananas,
relaxing, visiting Candy, and generally loafing around.
“So, what are you gonna’ do
today, Diddy?” DK asked, eager to change the subject.
“Well, Cranky sent Squawks
over here and said he needed to see us about something, that’s why I
came over here...”
“I wonder what he wants...”
“Well I guess there’s only one
way to find out...”
“Well, let’s go...” DK said as
he stood up out of the hammock.
Neither one of
them really wanted to go to Cranky’s house, but, if he wanted to see
them it was probably important. Diddy followed DK as he climbed down
the ladder from the tree house in the large, open field. Not so far in
the distance was the beach, where most of the Kongs lived, but, Cranky
(who disliked most of them) chose to live fairly deep in the jungle.
“Do you have any idea what he
wants?” DK asked Diddy
“No, Squawks just said he
needed to see us...”
“That’s pretty weird.”
“Yeah, Squaks said he needed
to get back to Cranky, and he just flew off before I could ask him
anything else.”
“Huh...” Donkey Kong mumbled a
little but the rest of the trip to the Jungle was spent in relative
silence. As the Jungle loomed in the distance, and the smell of the
sea air slowly faded away the pair could hear a faint rumbling noise.
“Whats that?”
“I’m not sure, but I don’t
like the sound of it...” Diddy said
DK and Diddy looked at each
other for a moment before trees in the distance could be heard
crashing to the forest floor. A grey mass of something could be seen
charging towards them with a huge cloud of dust billowing up behind
it.
Is that...Hey it is! It’s
Rambi!” DK exclaimed, but Rambi was still running and the gap between
them would soon be closed.
“Hey! Stop!” Donkey Kong and
Diddy shouted in unison, the cloud seemed shrank and Rambi slowed down
just in time.
“Guys get on!” Rambi yelled.
“What’s the rush?” Diddy asked
“I’ll explain on the way,
c’mon.”
In a few minutes
they were on a rampage threw the Jungle towards Cranky’s.
“So whats the problem?” DK
questioned Rambi
“He’s seen something threw his
telescope and he needs you guys to come and help him or something.”
“What did he see?”
“He wouldn’t say...”
“Hmmm....”
About fifteen minutes later,
Cranky’s house loomed in the distance and Rambi slowed down.
He came to a halt at the side
of the house and they DK and Diddy thanked him, and went inside.
“I thought you dumb monkey’s
would never get here.” Cranky said “Now take a gander though this here
telescope.” They did take a look and what they saw was a warship, with
the unmistakable insignia of King K. Rool.
“Now get out there and see
what them Kremlings are up too!” He shouted at DK and Diddy.
“Okay Cranky!” Diddy shouted
and they were out the door.
DK and Diddy set
out, then through the jungle, seeing everything looked normal. They
arrived at the shoreline, seeing the ship, getting closer, and fast.
Then DK heard a shot ring out, just grazing his fur. Expecting there
might be more coming, he grabbed Diddy and dove behind a rock. He was
right about the shots, and one of them pierced through Diddy’s foot,
hindering his movement. Donkey Kong examined the wound; it was turning
an ugly black color, and spreading slowly through his flesh. The
bullet itself was a neon purple, and glowed vibrantly, pulsing out in
small, hot, bursts. DK brought his hand close, but when it entered the
glow, a purple energy shot from the crystal and latched onto his hand.
He reached forward quickly grabbed it, shooting pain up through his
arm, and threw it away from him and Diddy.
DK peaked over the
rock, and saw the ship had landed and kremlings were starting to pour
out, however he noticed the kremlings had strange weapons, which
seemed to be comig out of their backs and arms. They were storming
onto the beach, and he said to Diddy, "We have to get out of here"
"DK, I can’t walk, I can’t
even feel my foot!" He half whimpered. DK glanced down to see Diddy’s
foot had turned an even deeper shade of black, and some of the fur had
begun to fall off.
"I can’t fight these guys
alone...We’ll have to run for it..." He picked Diddy up, took a glance
back at the beach, and ran back through the jungle.
Donkey Kong leaped
out behind from the rock, with Diddy under his shoulder, and ran as
fast as he could. He was shot a few times in the back, but most of the
bullets missed by several feet. He could feel himself succumbing to
the pain in his back, but the Kremlings had seemed to back of for the
time being. He tried to reassure Diddy he'd be alright, but he was no
longer conscious. He knew if he could make it to Cranky's, they would
be okay. As he ran through the jungle, leaping over streams, and
swinging from vines, Cranky had tottered out of his lab, to greet them
at the door.
“What in the name of bananas
happened to Diddy!” he yelled
“We went to the beach to see
the ship, and the Krems had some weird new weapons...”
“Well, come in I’ll fix you
dumb apes up.” Cranky mumbled. He led them in, where he ran various
tests on Diddy’s leg, he finally mixed together a salve of sea water,
citric acids, some powder of Crystal Coconuts, and some other various
chemicals Donkey Kong didn’t recognize. The concoction was applied to
the wounds on Diddy’s leg, and after Cranky plucked the shards out of
DK’s back, applied it to him too.
“I’ll radio Funky, and he’ll
round up the rest of the Kongs, for the time being you fellas get some
rest.” Cranky explained.
“Okay...” DK mumbled, and he
fell asleep immediately, and Diddy already was. As the two dreamed
violent, horrifying dreams, the Kong family filled into the small lab.
About three hours later, Diddy came to from his sleep.
“Uhh, what’s happenin’...” he
coughed.
“You crazy fools got shot up
by some Kremlin’s.” Funky said. “Don’t worry though we got us a plan!”
“Okay...” Diddy said and he
fell back to sleep.
“Alright Cranky, I think it’s
time to get some’a those gadgets outta storage.” Funky said.
“I was hopin’ you’d say that.”
Cranky said and they began to dig through the closet. Once again the
napping Kongs came too, but this time they were up for a while.
“What’ all that junk?” Donkey
Kong asked.
“This is what gonna help you
beat those Kremlings” Cranky said.... The room was full of Crystal
Coconuts, guns, ammo, and a variety of barrels. There was a knock at
the door and Chunky, Kiddy, and a strange looking thing were at the
door.
“This..is a friend we met...”
Chunky said as they walked in.
“Who are you? You don’t look
like no simian I ever seen...” Cranky said.
“My names Paula, and I’m here to help...”
