The Chronicles of Srevermore
Part Four

Written By: Shayn Davis

In a time not such long passed, the land of Hyrule was a land filled with sun, long sweeping fields, and beautiful mountains. But now, the Princess Zelda gazed from her palace window to see a desolate wasteland o f charred earth and barren wind. The smell of death lingered in every corner of the world, and hunger was with her everywhere she went. She could have eaten in moderate abundance but, if her country was wasting away, she felt that as a good ruler, she should as well. The farms in hyrule had all dried up with the rivers, and all that was left were hulking mounds of black earth.

“Zelda, come away from the window.” Impa, her guardian said, sneaking into the room.

“Where is he?” She said, tears in her eyes.

“Of whom do you speak?”

“You know very well who I  mean.” Zelda said sharply turning to glare at her questioner.

“Yes I know. But you are a fool and a child for clinging so desperately to a love long since dead.”

“You know not what you say! I feel him, his presence surrounds me everywhere See you not the mark that binds us glows still!?” She moved the cloth from her left hand, two thirds of it glowered brightly, and a third was dim.

“You create for yourself a false night to wrap your thoughts in, you drink from a drought of ignorance. Of all the people of Hyrule!” Impa took a step and raised he fist. “You should know the spirits of the dead still whisper to us in our dreams!” Zelda cowered back. “And are with us until we join them in the next life!”

“HOLD YOUR TONGUE NURSEMAID! DOST THOU BELIEVE IT NEVER CROSSED MY MIND TO SEEK HIM OUT IN THE GOLDEN LANDS!?”

“I.....I...” Impa began, but Zelda cut her off.

“Be still wench. I seek respite from this new hell. And all its demons.” With that she spat at her and allowed her body to slip from her world into the other.

“Fool....” Impa said and left the room.

When the flashes of color and sound subsided, Zelda opened her eyes to find that she was in the Golden Lands once more. She looked about the sky was so bright with the suns rays that all the blue in it became a shining radiant burst that defined color, and the fields all around her were covered with beautiful flowers. This was the real Hyrule, the well from which the magic in the other sprang. Zelda walked northwardly for sometime, she was going to find the physical embodiment of the triforce. A few hours later she reached the resting place of the greatest power in her world. The air was thick with power, and she could taste the crackling brilliance of the golden Triforce. She wondered, for a moment, how this world could stay so beautiful while her own decayed away. Zelda looked at the Triforce and choked. One of the pieces was gone.

“How can this be?” she said aloud to herself.

“Courage is gone for the one who wields it is...” a beautiful voice rang out.

“So...he has perished.....” Zelda said, falling to her knees.

“Nay, know ye not your own rules? Had his body been slain his specter would come to join me,  he still lives, but in a wholly different realm ”

“I don’t understand...”

“There are many worlds, the one in which you dwell and it’s life source. But beyond the magical barrier that separates these two from all others, there are many. And now they are all in peril.”

“Gannon...”

“Be ye wrong again. The swine has no sway strong enough for the tasks that are currently unfolding” The voice replied.

“Then...then what....”

“What lies in wait, in all worlds, is known as Srevermore to the ancients. Forit is a beast more fowl than anything that dwells in this realm.”

“Is it why Hyrule is in such peril?”

“For now, no, Gannondorf has invited Srevermore into what is left of his heart. It has twisted and perverted his essence, and in doing so made him vulnerable.”

“Where is Link, he has saved this world before, he must do it again.”  Zelda’s words were torn between sobs, and filled with desperation.

“He is saving another world, but do not worry, he will be with you very soon. For the time being, there will be another. He has traversed many a land to find you, and you will help him, as he helped you.”

“Thank you...” Zelda said.

“Now begone....” With that Zelda could feel herself being pushed through the fabric of the world.  As the brilliance of Gold left her eyes, and her mind came back into focus, she realized that she was back in the tower sitting room, surrounded by famine once again. She looked about, and saw Impa had left, so she went to her quarters, and went to sleep.

As she dreamed her blessed and prophetic dreams, they were pockmarked by violence, and horror. Lighting flashed, tinted red with anger. Rain fell from burning clouds, bringing with it flood. And the face of evil, made its self known by imprinting its being on all the stars.” As if by a hand of fate, the crashing booming noise in her room, echoed into her thoughts. This real noise woke her, and she was surrounded by dazzling lights once more. As the flashing faded, and the noise subsided, a figure could be seen in front of a large wheel. Impa charged into the room, breaking the door, and instantly going into a Sheika fighting stance.

“SHOW YOURSELF OR BE STRUCK DOWN!!” She screamed at this new intruder.

“Ma’am, calm yourself, I bring no harm to you or yours.” A courteous man, or maybe a boy stepped down from a machine. He had drawn from a holster a strange looking weapon.

“Sheath your...wand....” Impa said, she had never seen such a device before.

“I assure you,” The boy said with a chuckle, “This is much more than a ‘wand’.”

“Be it sorcery or sword, sheath it now...” Impa said firmly, drawing from her ankle strap a menacing dirk.

“Yes, yes, ahh....but where are my manners?” The fellow said, putting his gun back into it’s holster. “My name is Jeff Adonauts, and I am here to save this land.”

“What is that.....contraption....behind you?” Zelda asked

“This is The Phase Distorter VI, it allows me to travel time, space, distance, and world with the press of a button.”

“It must be powerful magic to travel through Hyrule’s barriers.”

“Magic! Ha! I don’t use such barbaric things. This is science.”

“Here they are one in the same...” said Zelda

“Yes...well....what exactly is the problem here...” Jeff said, more than a little bewildered.

“Gannondorf, an evil wizard has thrown the land into a dark age like it has never known.”

“Has...Srevermore...been to this land?”

“The Triforce spoke of it....but, I don’t believe it is quite here in whole yet.”

“Then we are not to late....”  Jeff said solemnly.

“What shall we do?”

“We must find Gannon, and defeat him, and there is no time to lose. We shall go tonight, under the cover of darkness.”

“Yes. Tonight is good.” Impa said, heavy clouds block a full moon. Let us go to the stables.”

The three of them moved swiftly and silently, down to the horses. Though she herself was hungry, Zelda made sure that her prized steeds remained nourished. The two women quickly mounted their horses, but Jeff seemed to be having trouble.

“I’m afraid, I might have to walk...” he said, his head hung low.

“Do they not have animals such as these on your world.”

“Well, they do, but I’ve never ridden one...”

“How do your people move about quickly..”

“Well....most of my friends can teleport...”

“Enough of this nonsense.” Impa said, she lifted Jeff up by the arm and sat him down behind her. The rest of the night was shared in relative silence, for they had to be quiet while traveling the cursed Hylian countryside.
