The Chronicles of
Srevermore
Part Five
Written By: Shayn Davis
Chloe DeSanna lived a charmed life. She had
everything she could ever possibly want. Her mansion was located
in the sweeping Kanto countryside, surrounded by a forty foot high
fence. The grounds were highly varied and included an enormous
lake, sixty-five feet deep, and nearly half a mile wide. A
forest, full of high trees marred the fields that made up the
largest part of the property. The rocky regions in the western
part of the enclosure was home to a natural gas well, and the
fires that sprang up there had at times, caused the stone to heat
up enough to grill on. But, in Chloe’s eyes, the most wonderful
thing on her land was the Poke’mon. Around 120 of the 150 species
of Kanto lived with her in and around the mansion. She could have
imported others from Johto or Hoenn, but she just didn’t feel the
same way about them. Growing up in Kanto, her heart belonged to
it’s native creatures. She stepped out of her home, stretched, and
greeted a new day.
A shadow was
suddenly cast upon the great land around Chloe’s personal kingdom,
has her favorite Poke’mon, and fully grown Dragonite, swooped down
from the sky and landed a few feet from her. Dragonite were said
to posses intellect comparable to that of a human, and she
believed it whole heartedly. Back when she traveled the world,
Vincent (she had named him Vincent) had gotten her out of more
than one tight space.
“Good morning...” she said
walking over to him. His gaze was far off, which was unusual, at
least for Chloe. Vincent was almost always attentive, and this was
usually when he came to get his breakfast. On her belt, Chloe has
several pouches of Poke’mon food, she held some out for him, but
he seemed uninterested in the food as well.
“Hmm, well, I guess you’ll
be hungry until lunch...” Chloe said. She kept a very strict diet
for all of the Poke’mon that lived with her, and even though he
was, she would not play favorites with Vincent. Leaving the front
of the house behind, she walked onward for a while before reaching
the lake. Sitting beside the tall grass, and letting her fingers
dangle in the clear water a few water based Poke’mon came over to
greet her. A Squirtle, two Psyducks, and a Goldeen, made their way
and rested beside her. Putting some food down for them, she picked
up the Squirtle. It was about ready to evolve, she could tell just
be looking into his eyes. He playfully jumped out of Chloe’s arms
and looked as if he were playing Peek-a-Boo behind a large patch
of weeds. She smiled, got up and walked to the forest. After half
of an hour of spreading around food for her creatures, she sat on
a stump and took a break. Her mind felt cloudy, and within moments
she began to hear a voice, grainy and raspy at first, but it tuned
itself into precise neural passage ways, and than became clear,
almost beautiful,
“Hello Chloe.” The voice
said
“Hello Sepultura...” she
replied, not with her physical voice mind you, but with the echos
of her mind. Sepultura was an Alakazam that had recently come into
her possession, the two of them could communicate via telepathy.
“When will be leaving?”
The high level Poke’mon asked her.
“What do you mean?” She
replied.
“The man has come again.”
With that the Sepultura teleported away, and Chloe gave a mad dash
to the front gate.
Sweat poured
from her brow, her legs pumped with a rhythm that could only come
with years of training herself. She wasn’t sure of who this man
was, or of his intentions, but with the world outside of her walls
crumbling, she would take no chances with the safety of her land.
The peace the world had known had given way to a different kind of
war. Long gone were the riffle blasts of old, they had ushered in
a knew era of hostile corporate take overs, and laws which were
designed to benefit the corrupt governments of the planet. The
passage of a child going out on their own to become a Poke’mon
trainer had, in the past few years, become illegal. This had lead
to increases in the population of feral Poke’mon and, not so oddly
enough attacks had become rampant through the small towns and
villages. The tax on her property had become enormous, she knew
that soon, she would not be able to support the all of her
creatures.
And if this man had
anything to do with it, she would see him soon enough, and
question his motives.
When she
reached her gate, she was out of breath, her chest was on fire,
and a figure could be made out on the other side. Chloe pulled
the lever to open the gigantic oak doors, and there stood a
handsome man in an expensive suit, long blonde hair, and sleek
mirrored sun glasses.
“Yes, can I help you with
something?” She asked, still gasping for air.
“Only if you are...” He
pulled a note pad from his pocket, and flipped through a few
pages. “Chloe DeSanna.” A small smile cracked the corners of his
mouth.
“I am, and what business
do you have with me?”
“I wouldn’t cast my line
of work under the opaque moniker of “business”, but if you must
call it that.... You have been requested to come to a meeting,
with some of my associates. It will be held in the suite of the
Saffron City Hotel.”
“Why? Is it important?”
“Only of the utmost, I
assure you. As for it’s nature, I have been instructed to keep it
something of an enigma for the time being. Don’t want to scare you
away do we?” With that, he let out something of a chuckle.
“Well you’re doing a fine
job...”
“I almost always am. Now,
you will be there tomorrow at twelve o’ clock noon. If not we will
come for you.”
“Uhh...” Chloe was a loss
for words.
“Yes then. See you
tomorrow.” The mysterious man, turned on a heel, and left Chloe to
her own private world.
