Donkey Kong 3, the Super Mario Bros. 2 of the Donkey Kong Trilogy.
Donkey Kong 3 fades far off from it's 2 predecessors.
It isn't really a platform game anymore, more of a quirky, unique
shooter.
You play as Stanley. Every stage has Donkey Kong at the top middle
inbetween two vines that he is holding onto. You are at the
bottom, where there are a few straight platforms above each other.
You can move left and right, and jump up and down from these
platforms.
Your mission in each stage is to shoot Donkey Kong straight up the
vines to the top. (You shoot him with bug spray.)
As you are trying to do this, there are these bees coming down at
you. They will try and steal these flowers at the bottom of the
screen. You have to shoot them, because if they get away with all
your flowers, you lose a life.
There are also these worms that go across the screen on the
platforms. So you will have to jump around the different platforms
to avoid them. You regular bug spray doesn't kill them.
Every once in awhile DK will bump some more high potent bug spray
down that you can use to make DK go up higher, and kill those
pesky worms.
The stages repeat over and over forever! You just keep on playing
and rack up those points. But the stages will get harder, with
smaller platforms, more enemies, a faster game pace.
There is also a 2 player alternating mode. Where one player plays
until he/she dies.
Donkey Kong 3 is a fun game, but it's so different than Donkey
Kong 1 and Jr.
Maybe some people prefer it over the two, but the 1st and Jr. have
that classic fun, addictive feel. Well, better than the first two
or not, Donkey Kong 3 is a fun and simple game for your NES. |
