The start of the amazing Mario Kart Series.
Super Mario Kart came out trying to show racing games can be
different, you can use wacky items like shells, banana peels, and
mushrooms. You can play with the famous Nintendo Characters you
know and love, and you can have an amazing 1 and 2 player time.
Super Mario Kart may be on the SNES, but shows some amazing 3-D
graphics, as your perspective is behind the driver, you see all
the good looking tracks as you drive around.
You can play as Mario, Luigi, Princess, Yoshi, DK Jr., Koopa, and
Bowser. Each has their own mechanics, some have fast speed, but
bad acceleration, some can turn very well, but aren't the fastest.
There are 4 cups, each with 5 tracks. You do 5 laps on each track.
In each race you can use items to help you out. Shells can hit
opponents, mushrooms can give you a boost of speed, banana peels
can spin out enemies, and there are more items too.
When you play in Grand Prix Mode, at the end of each race you will
get points if you are in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. The higher the
place, the more points. At the end of each cup, whoever has the
most points, wins. There are also 3 levels of speed/difficulty.
And 2 players can play Grand Prix.
You can also play Time Trials, where you pick a character and
track, and then just drive around with no items and try for a fast
time.
There is also a mode that defined the game, and become more
popular than the actual racing to some people. I am talking about
Battle Mode for 2 players.
Select your character, and one of 4 arenas to play in. They are
just square arenas, with obstacles inside. You each start off with
3 balloons, and whoever loses them all first, well, loses. You can
get rid of your opponents balloons by getting items like shells,
and shooting it at them.
If you want an amazing Racing Game, that defined a generation of
video game racing, and spawned a worldwide famous series, than try
Super Mario Kart. |
