Description/Information: |

A prequel to Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island features gameplay
different than the first Super Mario World. The only thing that
holds these two games together is the story.
When Mario and Luigi were babies, a stork was bringing them home.
All of a sudden Kamek comes out to snatch the babies. (Kamek
believes these babies will one day bring havoc to Bowser.)
But Kamek only snatches Luigi. Baby Mario falls down, and find
Yoshi. Yoshi brings Baby Mario back to the other Yoshi's. They
decide they will travel across the island, facing grave danger to
save Baby Luigi, and get both babies to their parents.
Yoshi's Island is a sidescrolling game. You move across each level
playing as a Yoshi who is carrying Baby Mario. (At the end of each
level you trade off, and give Baby Mario to another colour Yoshi,
who you then play in the next level.)
Each level consists of many enemies, and many different obstacles.
You can to get across safely. Yoshi can jump, and do his trademark
floating jump. Yoshi can also swallow enemies and make eggs of
them. He can then target whatever he wants on the screen and shoot
it. Yoshi also has an item box he can use within each level. Items
like Watermelon seeds to shoot, or extra star time. There are many
more items.
I guess I got ahead of myself. Each level doesn't have a time
limit, but if an enemy hits you, Baby Mario will go floating off
in a bubble. From the second Mario leaves Yoshi, a timer will
count down. If it hits 0, enemies will take Mario away and its
Game Over. You can have a max of 30 seconds on the timer, and as I
said above, there are items to give you more time.
There are several worlds, each has its own boss at the end to
defeat. And at the end of the game, it's you against Baby Bowser.
You also collect points in each level. It is measured by 3 things.
How much time you have on the timer, how many of the 5 flowers you
collected in the stage, and how many of the 20 Red Coins you got.
Red Coins look like regular coins until to get them, so it's even
harder to get them all.
But, if you finish every level, of a world with 100 Points, you
get a Bonus Level and Bonus Mini game, in which you can win items,
and you can play it as much as you want. Although it gets quite
difficult on the higher worlds to get 100 Points on every level.
I also have to mention the unique graphics this game had, they
were like a crayon coloured story book. All the characters and
backgrounds. I also have to mention that this is a 1 player game.
If you like sidescrollers, try this unique one. Many people love
this game, they hold it in high respect. |
