Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)

(Click Above image to view full sized image in pop-up)

The Nintendo Entertainment System, the Nintendo Entertainment System.
Well this is the system that started it all, not just for Nintendo, but for an entire business market.

Back in the 1980 Nintendo decided to enter the video game system industry.
At this time the market was crowded with many other companies making systems.
Nintendo knew they would have to make the system better and cheaper than the others to make the system big.

So they set off on a search to find the best components for the system, while still making the system very affordable, that way everyone could have a video game system in their home. They eventually created the legendary Famicom. This is what the NES is known as in Japan. Famicom is for Family Computer. It then was released to Japan in 1983.

It did very well in Japan, and Nintendo decided to take it to the rest of the world.
They decided to try North America. But the North American gaming market was VERY unstable at the time, many retailers refused to sell any type of video game system or games, as they lost alot of money in the past.
There were other video game systems before the NES, such as the Atari 2600.
But there was nothing set in place to stop hundreds of bad games from flooding the market, and that is exactly what happened. There were tons upon tons of new video games being made and sent out. And tons of them were just awful.
Because of this flooding of games, the video game market basically collapsed.

But Nintendo decided to try out the NES in a test city. This was New York City. They thought if the NES could sell there, it could sell anywhere. So they tried to get retailers to sell the NES in New York. They said No. So Nintendo told them they would buy back the NESes that did not sell. So it was a win win for the retailers.
So they bought some NESes, and the rest is history. The NES sold there, and then sold ALL over the world like crazy. The NES had 90% of the video game market. No other system has ever been able to do this, or come close.

In case you are wondering why there weren't tons and tons of awful NES Games made, then just take a closer look at one of your Nintendo Games. You'll see the Nintendo Seal of Quality. With this Nintendo was able to regulate the games released on the NES. So people didn't get tricked into buying bad game after bad game.

Well the NES started it all, it made Nintendo known as an amazing system creator, and brought back the home video game industry, which many believed to be dead.

The NES has sold 62 Million Units!!!! It is the most sold video game system in the world. This is why Nintendo is the greatest video game company in the world.
