Part 2: World 2 – Donut Plains
Written by: Mr. X
OK, this one
is going to be much more useful than the first part, there are secret
exits in this one.
Donut Plains 1:
Note: The koopa with the flashing red cape gives you a feather if you
jump on the back of it while it is flying.
To
get to the first exit, just move to the end of the level as usual.
Finding the secret exit is still pretty simple though, but you are
going to need a cape at the end of the level or have hit the Green
Switch in the Green Switch Palace. If you want to use the cape, you
need to wait until you get to a place with 3 stacked platforms and a
tall green pipe. Use the top platform as a runway and fly upward to
the right. You should be able to fly over a green pipe that is sitting
up there and land on a system of thin yellow pipes. You will see a key
and a keyhole. Pick up the key and walk into the keyhole (if you have
Yoshi, have him eat the key and then walk into the keyhole). If you
have beaten the Green Switch Palace then you can pass by the section
with 3 platforms until you get to a wall made of green blocks. You
cannot do this with Yoshi. You will run at the little ramp on the
ground and if you picked up enough speed Mario will run straight up
the wall. Grab the key and put it in the keyhole.
Dragon Coins:
1st:
There are 2 platforms near the very beginning of the level. The first
Dragon Coin is above the second platform.
2nd:
You will see a flower that spits out fireballs. Just after this is a
tall platform. Jump onto this platform. The second coin is a little
ways off the edge of the platform.
3rd:
You will need a cape. When you see two blue pipes (one coming out of
the ground and one coming out of some stones facing downward) you must
run and take flight. Fly a little ways up high until you come to a
platform made of Lakitu clouds. The coin is up there.
4th:
Drop off of the cloud platform and you will land near a place with a
bunch of yellow blocks surrounded by two Chargin’ Chucks throwing
baseballs. Progress through the level until you come to another flower
that spits fireballs and grab the coin that is sitting just above it.
5th:
You will come to a place with 3 stacked platforms and a tall green
pipe. The coin is next to the green pipe.
Donut Plains 2:
This
level is a scrolling level, so it is very easy to find the regular
exit.
To
get the secret exit you must find a pipe. You will come to a series of
elevating yellow floors and you will see an orange pipe coming out of
the ceiling. This is followed by another orange pipe, which is then
followed by a green pipe and is finally followed by a second green
pipe. Jump up into the 2nd green pipe. Pass the football player until
you come to a place 4 yellow blocks that get higher and higher. A
little further you will see a blue shell covered by 3 yellow blocks.
Get the blue shell (if you don’t know how by now then how did you get
this far?) and throw it upwards at the highest yellow block in the
row. A vine will come out of the block. Jump up the blocks onto the
vine and climb up to the room with the key and put the key in the
keyhole. If you have Yoshi then you can just eat the blue shell,
giving Yoshi wings. Fly up into the hole that the vine would normally
grow up into and spit out the shell. Eat the key and walk into the
keyhole.
Dragon Coins:
1st:
You will come to an opening with a yellow floor. The floor moves up
and down. Get on this floor and wait until the floor travels up a
little ways and jump to get the Dragon Coin.
2nd:
You will come to a series of rising and falling floors. You will pass
by 2 orange pipes followed by 2 green pipes. The coin is after the
second green pipe.
3rd:
After that section of elevating floors and pipes you will come to a
wide, flat open section. The Dragon Coin is right in the middle of
this.
4th:
The level then opens up wider and the scrolling slows down. The fourth
coin is right in front of a large elevating floor.
5th:
The 5th Dragon Coin is right after the elevating floor that
was mentioned above (4th Dragon Coin).
Green Switch Palace:
Refer to Yellow Switch Palace in Part 1.
Donut Ghost House:
The
secret exit is very simple. You need a cape. At the very beginning of
the level, fly up against the very edge of the screen and you’ll go
through a hole in the ceiling. Run along up there until you come to a
drop off. Jump down and go in the door and you’ll see an exit gate.
Getting to the normal exit is a little weird. If you have a cape, you
can fly up to the ceiling after you enter the second room and you’ll
see a platform near the top. If not, enter the door to the third room.
It will look almost exactly the same as the second room, but it isn’t.
Jump through the stairs and enter the door at the end of the room. You
will now be below the stairs of the second room. Hit the yellow block
to produce a vine. Climb up the vine to get onto the platform. Enter
the door and pass the level exit gate.
Dragon Coins:
1st:
The first Dragon Coin is above the third platform in the first room.
2nd:
You will see a coin in the second room but it is inaccessible. Enter
the third room and grab the coin. Before you jump above the stairs,
hit the yellow block to produce a “P” switch.
3rd:
Hit the switch and enter a door on a platform that is a little ways
over to the left. You will be in a room with an item block and there
will be a green block with a star on it above that. Jump onto the item
block, and then jump from there to the above block. The coin is above
the second block.
4th:
You will be back in the second room after you exit the secret room
with the third coin. Enter the door at the end of the room and you’ll
be back in the third room. Enter the door in that room and you’ll be
back under the stairs in the second room. Grab the coin and hit the
yellow block.
5th:
Climb the vine to the platform. The last coin is just next to the top
of the vine.
TOP SECRET AREA:
You
get this by clearing the secret exit in Donut Ghost House. There is no
point to this except to get items.
Donut Plains 3:
There is no secret exit in this level. It is simple and linear and
does not require instruction to complete.
Dragon Coins:
1st:
The first Dragon Coin is found on the first spinning gray
triple-platform you come too.
2nd:
You’ll come to a section where 4 yellow blocks form a bridge between
two platforms. Jump down onto one of the platforms underneath and hit
the last block in the line and a vine will come out. Climb the vine
and grab the coin near the end of the cloud platform.
3rd:
You will jump onto a platform that follows a visible line. Hit the
“on” switch so it says “off.” When the platform begins to pass another
“off” switch you should hit it so it says “on.” Not long after that
will be a straight section with some coins and an enemy following a
tight circle above you. Just after that is the Dragon Coin.
4th:
You will soon come to another spinning gray triple-platform. After
this platform you should jump onto another wooden platform that
follows a line. It will take some jumps and along this short line you
will pass the coin that you will grab on your way by.
5th:
You will come to 2 more spinning gray triple-platforms. The last coin
is on the second set.
Donut Plains 4:
This
is another nice and simple linear level with no secret exits.
Dragon Coins:
1st:
You will jump over a green pipe. Just after it is a tall platform. The
coin is up on this platform.
2nd:
You’ll come to a point where you go down 2 ramps. After these two
ramps there are 3 item blocks in a row, followed by a row of yellow
blocks. The Dragon Coin is near the end of the row of blocks. At this
point you should now enter the blue pipe.
3rd:
You will be in a cave after you entered the blue pipe. Move forward
until you come to a gap with 5 Paratroopas flying up and down over it.
Bounce off of their heads to grab the coin that is above them.
4th:
You will come to a place after the halfway gate that has a few
sections of the land sunk in. In this first hole is an item block that
contains Yoshi (or a 1-up mushroom if you already have him). The coin
is just above the second hole (which has two winged goombas in them).
5th:
You will come to a series of small hills where a barrage of
Para-goombas will come down at you. The last coin is in plain site in
easy reach along this stretch of land.
Donut Secret 1:
This
is a swimming level. Watch out for the Rip Van Fish. They will be
sleeping until you get close to them. Then they will give chase. The
normal exit is simple to find, just progress naturally through the
level. Beating it will unlock another path to Donut Ghost House. The
secret is not as simple, but it is not too difficult.
A
little ways through the level you will come to a “P” switch. Do not
hit it yet. Pick it up until you come to a row of brown blocks with an
item block at the end (all of which are covering up a hole. You will
not be able to get under these blocks with normal means. Hit the “P”
switch now and the brown blocks will turn to coins. Go through them
and hit the item block. It will produce a key. Pick it up and put it
in the nearby keyhole. Clearing this will unlock a path to Donut
Secret House.
Dragon Coins:
1st:
You will come to a row of 4 item blocks with a Rip Van Fish sleeping
on top of them. The Dragon Coin is also above this row of blocks.
2nd
and 3rd: You will see a blue pipe coming out of the ceiling
not long after the first coin. Go up the pipe. There will be an item
block in the middle of the cave. Hit it and a balloon will come out.
Grab the balloon and Mario will inflate and begin to float upwards.
Stay to the left until you come to a gray platform with another item
block. Hit it to get a second balloon because your first one should be
running out by now. Near the ceiling are two Dragon Coins, one on the
left side of the room, the other on the right side of the room.
4th:
After you exit the orange pipe coming from the cave there will be 2
gaps directly below you. Move down the gap to the right of the pipe.
The coin is at the bottom.
5th:
You will come to the halfway gate. Above it is a platform with the
dragon coin on it. Two blue blocks block off the coin. Kill the Rip
Van Fish or lure him out of his spot and pick up one of the blue
blocks. You can just throw it anywhere. Grab the coin.
BONUS: That’s right, there is an extra Dragon Coin in this level.
Right before the row of brown blocks I mentioned in the directions on
how to clear the secret exit is a gap in the ceiling. The coin is up
in that gap. In the SNES game it is different. Look for a block of
land coming from the ceiling near this area where you can see the edge
of it at the top of the screen. You can swim up off the screen and
grab the extra Dragon Coin above the block of land.
Donut Secret House:
This
level is fairly simple. You will simply progress through the first
room. To get past the Big Boo, simply hit the “P” Switch to allow the
springboard to drop down. Use the springboard to jump over the Big
Boo. Enter the yellow door at the end of the room. In the second room,
you will just progress through until you get to a platform with coins
above it forming the shape of a door. It is important that you collect
these coins. Keep moving further until you find a “P” Switch. Hit the
switch and run back to the platform you collected those coins on.
There should be a silver door there, unless the “P” switch has run
out, in that case, you must find a way to re-enter the room or restart
the level. Enter it and cross the exit gate.
For
the secret exit, do everything exactly the same, except for one thing.
After you hit the “P” Switch to make the silver door appear, you will
jump onto a platform of item blocks with a yellow door on it. Do not
go in that door. Hit the right until you see a silver door yellow
block above the door and a vine will grow from it. Climb the vine
until you reach a platform above and run to the. Enter the silver
door. Remember, you must do this before the “P” Switch runs out.
After entering the door you will begin a fight with Big Boo. All you
have to
do is wait until he is no longer transparent, pick up a blue block,
and
throw the block up into him. You do this three times and then he is
dead. Do
not pick up three blue blocks deep in one spot or you will fall and
die.
This
unlocks a Star Road Entrance.
Dragon Coins:
1st:
The first Dragon Coin is right in front of the first ring of “Boo
Buddies” that you see on the lower floor.
2nd:
After you pass the Big Boo you will enter a yellow door. Cross to the
other side of the next room and jump onto the platform with the “P”
Switch. You will see a wooden ledge sticking out above you. Jump onto
that ledge and then onto the following ledges until you get the Dragon
Coin on the topmost ledge.
3rd:
Hit the “P” Switch in that room and go to the yellow door that you saw
floating in mid-air. Enter the door and make your way to the left.
Grab the coin and enter the nearby yellow door.
4th:
If you followed directions correctly then you will end up under the
stairs in the first room. Grab the Dragon Coin under there and jump up
above the stairs and enter the yellow door.
5th:
Do what you would do to get the secret door except you will run past
the door and duck so you slide under a wooden wall to grab the last
Dragon Coin.
Donut Secret 2:
This
level is linear. There is nothing to explain. There are no hidden
exits.
Dragon Coins:
1st:
The first Dragon Coin is just above the first icy platform you come to
near the beginning of the level.
2nd:
You will see a springboard not long after the first coin. Use it to
hit the yellow block above. Then move it over slightly to either side.
Use it to jump up onto the vine that has come out of the block. Climb
the vine to the platform of ice above. The Dragon Coin will be off the
edge of the platform. Jump off the platform, grabbing the coin in the
process. Be sure not to fall in the gap below.
3rd:
Not long after the gap, you will see a Spiny. Following the Spiny is a
raised platform followed by another taller platform. In the gap
between these, just above the actual height of the first platform is
the 3rd coin.
4th:
Just after that second taller platform you will jump to a 3rd
platform. The coin is in the air just after the 3rd
platform, just before a 4th one.
5th:
You will come to a point where a green pipe is sticking out of the top
of the screen. Don’t go in the pipe yet (if you were planning on it).
Go a little further and you will see the final coin in the air just
below 2 suspended platforms with Spike Tops walking around the edges
of them.
Castle #2, Morton’s Castle
The
castle is simple enough to get through. Just get to the big red door
and enter it.
When
battling Morton you just have to stomp on his head 3 times. But watch
out, if he gets to the wall he will run up the wall and onto the
ceiling. As soon as he gets above you he will try to drop on top of
you. If you are quick enough you will kill him before he can even do
this once.
Dragon Coins:
1st:
When going up the escalator, you will see the first Dragon Coin below
the last Ball ‘n’ Chain.
2nd:
In the second room, you will have to dodge a series of Thwomps. After
the third Thwomp you will see the Dragon Coin in the gap that it fell
from. Jump up there and grab it before the Thwomp comes back up.
3rd:
In the third room, you just need to keep climbing until you get to a
row of 3 item blocks. From there, wait for a piece of stone to come
out of the wall above you and use the piece of stone to jump to the
next piece of flooring. Wait for the moving stones to shift in the
other direction and you’ll see a coin come out above you. Grab it
without being crushed and continue to climb.
4th:
You will come to a point where yellow blocks block you off. Hit the
second yellow block from the right and a vine will grow from it. Climb
the vine into a small room and wait for the Dragon Coin to come out of
the wall. Grab it before it goes back in.
5th:
When you jump up into the last level of the room with the big red
door, you will notice a Dragon Coin coming out of the wall just before
a piece of stone. Grab it before it goes into the other wall. This is
in the gap that is next to the last level of the room. You’ll
understand it once you see it.
Congratulations! You have
completed World 2.
