Game Name: Madden NFL 2005
System: Nintendo DS
Genre: Sports/Football
Developer/Publisher: Electronic Arts
Release Date: November 21st, 2005
Players: 2 players simultaneous |
Introduction:
For years the Madden series has graced our homes, bringing us
high-quality games that seem to never get old. With Madden games on
everything from the SNES to present times EA Sports has decided to
bring the series to the Nintendo DS. Hope for the best.
Story:
Not much story here. You can start a season with any of the 32
teams, or start a franchise. If you consider a season a story that's
all that is here.
Gameplay:
The responsiveness of the buttons aren't so great, which is
important in sports games. When the players run on the field it
appears as though there is no traction at all. I for one was not
aware of the new ice turf. The a.i. for both sides of the field are
sub-par. You can throw a pass directly to a receiver and they might
not even try to catch it!
I give the gameplay: 7/10
Graphics:
If you have ever played a Madden game on the N64 or Playstation,
that is basically what you're going to get. The players look like
they're are made of Lego Blocks. And from a distance you can't even
read the players jersey number.
I give the graphics: 5/10
Sound:
Well, where to begin... The sound effects for the crashing of the
players is not too bad... but the trademark for the Madden series is
John's commentary, and that's not what you're going to get here.
Honestly, Madden has 2 lines in the whole game, and he rarely says
either.
I give the sound: 6.5/10
Replayability:
The game offers wireless multi-player, but not download play. I
personally don't like going through season after season. There is no
make-a-character which also hurts the score. I bought the game and I
don't play it anymore.
I give the replayability: 5.5/10
Challenge:
The hardest challenge in Madden '05 probably would be against a
friend in multi-player. But the lack of quality in all of the other
categories might also make the game harder. If you can beat an
entire season with the blind receivers, hats off to you.
I give the challenge: 7/10
Value:
I bought this game for $40... and I totally regret it. It
just isn't a good game. I have nothing more to say.
I give the value: 4/10
Overall:
This game...at the least seems a bit rushed. EA barely took
advantage of the touch screen, which is only used to call audibles
and pick plays. The only way I could see anybody buying this game is
if they're bored with their DS and want to try something new.
I give Madden NFL 2005 (DS): 5.5/10
Conclusion:
Thank you for reading my review. -Joe Man
