Game Name: New Super Mario Bros.
System: Nintendo DS
Genre: Action / Platformer
Developer: Nintendo
Publisher:
Nintendo
Release Dates:
United States: May 15th, 2006
Japan: May 25th, 2006
Europe: June 30th, 2006

Introduction:

In 1985, Super Mario Bros. singlehandedly saved the video game industry, but it was not the last time the plumber would be seen. Finishing up his main adventures on the NES were Super Mario Bros. 2 and possibly his greatest game ever, Super Mario Bros. 3. On the SNES, Mario returned in two Super Mario World games, that are favorites of a lot of people today. He also starred in two Super Mario Land games for the Game Boy. When the N64 launched, Mario was shot into the 3D dimension. Most doubted he would ever return to 2D platforming.

They were wrong. At E3 2004, Super Mario Bros. DS was revealed, and everybody was stunned. However, it took two long years for the game to be released, under a new name, New Super Mario Bros. Mario fans were in heaven. How good is it? Read on.

Story:

The stories in Mario games have never been spectacular, especially when you compare them to The Legend of Zelda. The story in NSMB is simple, Bowser Jr. kidnaps Princess Peach and Mario must pursue him and get her back. That's it, like I said, not spectacular. People wanting a storyline, don't expect it.

Gameplay:

The gameplay of SMB returns, and  better than ever. All the clasicness we loved is still there, but even better. The sidescrolling, goomba stomping, Bowser battling gameplay is amazing yet again. The game is loaded with secrets, and you will be playing for awhile if you don't rush through it. This is my next point, if you rush through the game, you will not enjoy it as much. If you just go normal, you will love this game so much better.

I give the gameplay: 10/10

Graphics:

The graphics are the best of any 2-D Mario game yet. They couldn't be any better, I have nothing else to say

I give the graphics: 10/10

Sound:

The music isn't as legendary as the original Mario games, but the great thing about it is that the enemies react to it. They dance to the music. When a big beat come up, they will hop, and so will the items. It is pretty cool. The other great thing is you will recognize sounds from the old Mario games, and go back on a memory train.

I give the sound: 9.5/10

Replayability:

You'll be replaying this game for years, there are so many extras to go back in find.

I give the replayability: 10/10

Challenge:

EVERYONE on the internet has been complaining about how easy it is, and I mostly agree. You will have like 70 lives quickly, too many 1ups everywhere. The levels are not that hard, but still pose a little challenge

I give the challenge: 4/10

Frustration:

This game is not frustrating, and that makes it better. I never got frustrated once.

I give the frustration: 0/10

Value:

The value of this game is pretty good,  $35 dollars for it is pretty good for this.

I give the value: 8/10

Comparison to the original SMB:

Which is better? NSMB or SMB? The clasicness of SMB cannot be beaten, ever, but for a game itself, NSMB is better.

The first number represents NSMB out of the second number, SMB.

I give the comparison to the original SMB: 9/10

Overall:

This game is excellent on all aspects. If you are a Mario fan, and do not have this, go jump in a ditch. This game is a necessity.

I give New Super Mario Bros.: 9.6/10

Conclusion:

We'll be playing NSMB for years, and I encourage you to get it soon. Thanks for reading!
