Game Name: Resident Evil: Deadly Silence
System: Nintendo DS
Genre: Action Adventure
Developer/Publisher: Capcom
Players: 4
Release Dates:
Japan: January 19th, 2006
United States: February 7th, 2006

Introduction:

Resident Evil fans and all those with Nintendo DS systems rejoice; Resident Evil has finally arrived on the DS, and let me assure you, it does not disappointment. The remake of the original horror masterpiece released for the Sony Playstation in 1996 comes to the DS with added
features specifically designed for the DS's capabilities as well as the original game (including the same cheesey voice acting and cut-scenes).

Story:

The S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics and Rescue Squad) Bravo team has been sent to investigate strange murder cases throughout Racoon City. When Bravo team went missing in action, the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team was sent to investigate. Upon discovering Bravo team's helicopter, Alpha team was attacked by some sort of strange creature, forcing them to take cover in a mysterious mansion. Now, the members of the Alpha team must discover what's behind this horror, and try to escape from the mansion with their lives.

Gameplay:

All Resident Evil games preceding Resident Evil 4 have a somewhat unorthodox and difficult control scheme. Though as any fan of the series can tell you, this slightly frustrating control scheme is one of the aspects that has made the Resident Evil series into such a frightening success. Rebirth mode uses the same control scheme as the original masterpiece. Fighting off zombies and other mutated creatures is both fun and frightening no matter which
weapon you chose to do it with. But as anyone familiar with the series knows, Resident Evil games are more than just run and gun, you've got to use your brain too. From mixing chemicals to playing the piano, puzzles are widely varied. Puzzle lovers will be pleased to know that Rebirth mode features new brain-bending challenges using both the touch screen and the microphone. Unlike many of the games out today, Resident Evil DS is incredibly challenging, and will prove difficult for even the most hardcore gamers,

I give the gameplay: 8/10

Graphics:

The Resident Evil series is most known for its horrifyingly breathtaking graphics, and the graphic quality of Resident Evil DS is top-notch. Every item, every room, every enemy is so finely detailed that sometimes I get caught up in the beauty without realizing that there's a group of zombies sneaking up behind me. Knife Mode (Exclusive to Rebirth mode) shows enemies in great detail.

I give the graphics: 9/10

Sound:

While Resident Evil DS features creepy background music, the voice acting brings tears to my eyes. Tears of Laughter.

I give the sound: 7/10

Replayability:

Once you've unlocked everything, there's not much else to do unless you have some friends to play multiplayer matches with.

I give the replayability: 6/10

Challenge:

As I said before, THIS GAME IS TOUGH! You'll need quick reflexes and a sharp mind if you hope to survive.

I give the challenge: 10/10

Frustration:

The difficulty of this game might frustrate players with little patience (or those that have run out of ink ribbons). Controls are difficult to get used to as well.

I give the frustration: 7/10

Value:

This game has undoubtedly high value, and will stay in your DS for a long time. Renting it might not give you enough time to beat it.

I give the value: 8/10

New Features:

Isn't it enough to have a great survival horror game to take with you wherever you go? But to add new features!?!? Capcom, you're too kind to us. New features include new puzzles, Knife Mode, exciting multiplayer matches, and of course, Rebirth Mode. The only thing more I could ask for is more multiplayer maps. Three just isn't enough for players who want to test their skills with or against their friends.

I give the new features: 8/10

Overall:

All-in-all, you're looking at one great game here. Resident Evil DS is a good buy for all you horror fans out there.

I give Resident Evil: Deadly Silence: 8.5/10

Conclusion:

Although some may be disappointed that they didn't get the all new Resident Evil game they were hoping for, Resident Evil DS delivers satisfying as well as difficult gameplay. If you've got the cash, you should definitely consider this game as your next buy. Huh? Who's knocking on my door? Zo.. Zombies!? HELP!!! Ahhhhhh!!!.......Brains...Flesh...Tasty.
