Introduction:
Trace Memory... That quirky little title I only picked up because it
was cheap. Guess what? Turns out it was worth it.
Story:
So, You're Ashley. You haven't heard from your parents in years.
Then, right before your 13th birthday, you receive a letter from
your father! It states that he is on Blood Edward Island, and would
love to see you. At this point you set off for the island..
Gameplay:
Think of the gameplay as those old point and click adventure games
for PC, mixed with the overhead view of something like zelda for
NES. Combine the two and you basically have Trace Memory. The game
is excellent, although very short. Too short I dare say. The use of
the touchscreen is excellent in this game.
I give the gameplay: 9/10
Graphics:
The top screen displays still photos of random things, which look
very good. The characters in the game have an anime style look to
them. The bottom screen has a 2d/3d feel to it, like Zelda NES,
redone with a 3d feel. They look really good, although they do look
bad at times in the game.
I give the graphics: 7.5/10
Sound:
Wow, probably the most memorable part in the game is the excellent
musical score. Each chapter features an excellent little track, that
gets more climaxing as the chapters go on. Excellence is the only
word that comes to mind.
I give the sound: 9/10
Replayability:
This is were the game severely lacks, Once you beat the game, and
know how to do everything, odds are you wont do it again, ever. And
if you do, it wouldn't be for years. Really too bad, though.
I give the replayability: 3/10
Challenge:
The challenge in this game was solid. It stumped me god a few times,
so bad that I got so frustrated I used a FAQ. Yes that's bad, but it
drove me nuts.
I give the challenge: 8/10
Frustration:
As stated above, some parts of the game can really get to you. ARGH!
I give the frustration: 8/10
Value:
This game was excellent, but not a worthy purchase. This
is the kind of game that you can rent, be done with in 2 days, and
save yourself $35. I picked this up for $15, so it wasn't that bad
I give the value: 5/10
Overall:
Overall, this game has an excellent story, fantastic
music, and decent graphics. While extremely short, offers some great
challenges, and along with that goes frustration. You may want to
rent this, because unless you buy it cheap, you may feel ripped off.
I give Trace Memory: 8/10
