  Game Name:
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
System:
Game Boy Advance
Genre:
Adventure
Players:
1
Developer:
Griptonite Games
Publisher:
Electronic Arts
Release Date:
Europe: November 15th, 2002
United States: November 15th, 2002
Japan: November 23rd, 2002

Introduction:

Harry Potter's second year at Hogwarts is filled with magic, puzzles, and lots and lots of "Flipendo!" spells.

(My memory is a bit foggy on this, so please don't email me questions.)

Story:

It's the same as the book essentially, except there are quests that aren't in the book or movie, etc. Harry Potter is back at Hogwarts, with his friends Ron and Hermione, when he finds a diary, it's Tom Riddle, blah blah blah... Tom is Voldemort, Harry kills him via the diary, and they all lived happily every after.

Gameplay:

One twist to this game is that everything is diagonal, and while it creates more of a 3-D image, it does get annoying. Harry looks pathetic while walking, and his jumping is a mixture of flailing toddler and Luigi in SMB2.
Also, you can charge up your spells, to make them deal different amounts of damage. Also, you can change the controls to your liking, so overall the gameplay is okay.

I give the gameplay: 7/10

Graphics:

The graphics are more cartoony than this game's predecessor. While still sporting regular GBA graphics, the faces on the subtitles are more detailed, and the camera view is closer to Harry.

I give the graphics: 8/10

Sound:

Sound is mediocre. Harry's wand-waving makes a little squeaky whistling sound, his grunt of pain is an "oof!", and some of the sounds are too cheesy. The music does get repetitive, but one can always turn off the sound for that.

I give the sound: 6/10

Replayability:

Replayability? Well there are numerous side puzzles, including a new spell, Alohomora, with which you can unlock chests. There are also secret doors portraits which you can unlock and get more health, etc.
And of course, like many games, you can't save after the final boss, which isn't much.

I give the replayability: 9/10

Challenge:

There wasn't so much challenge in this. Spell casting is faster, and those darn monsters have the AI of an all organic apple. It does take a lot of hits to kill these guys though, so be prepared for lots of charged up "Flipendo!"s.

I give the challenge: 6/10

Frustration:

The place was not as big as I'd have liked it to be, and the little quests took a long time. It takes you about half the game to get the ingredients for the Polyjuice Potion. It's just running around from class to class, learning spells and collecting things.

I give the frustration: 7/10

Value:

Not much. This game is old, and for GBA. I'd say about $7.00 at the least.
Maybe more or less depending on the supply and demand. I doubt these are sold anymore, because there's the Wii and DS, and plus the second movie is old. The fifth movie is coming out, as well as the seventh and final book.
If you're a huge Harry Potter fan, and somehow find this, you should rent it.
To buy it, that would take a pretty big Potter Posse (I made that up!)

I give the value: $7.00/$11.00

Overall:

This game has its ups and downs. This is more of a "don't buy this game" in my opinion than an "OMG this game rockz!"

I give Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: 610

Conclusion:

I really have nothing more to say.
I wouldn't recommend this game, but people have their own tastes.
