  Game Name:
Soul Calibur 2
System:
Gamecube
Genre:
Fighting
Players:
1-2

Developer:
Namco
Publisher:
Namco
Release Date:
Japan: March 26th, 2003
United States: August 27th, 2003
United Kingdom: September 26th, 2003

Introduction:

Soul Calibur 2 was one of my starting games for the Gamecube and, after 2 and a half years, is still my favourite. Here is what I have to say about the best Gamecube game I've played.

Story:

In arcade, every character has there own story and ending. But the real story is in weapon master mode. You are a lone adventurer seeking the evil sword know as Soul Edge for its awesome power. You must complete a series of missions while meeting other folks along the way on your quest for Soul Edge.

Gameplay:

This is the best fighting game I have ever played. Everything is in here that you would expect from a superb fighting game. Each of the twenty-something characters have a wide selection of weapons {some of which must be unlocked} that make this a totally awesome fighting experience. What really brings the gameplay together in this game is Weapon Master mode. As you progress, you will unlock new weapons, costumes, and even gain experience to level up which will keep you satisfied the whole way through. And what's a fighting game without multi-player? You can grab a friend and duke out for as long as you want!

I give the gameplay: 9.0/10.0

Graphics:

The graphics in this game are superb. Basically everything looks great in this game. The characters are extremely detailed giving them a realistic appearance. The battle arenas look absolutely spectacular. And they even made the weapons look great.

I give the graphics: 9.0/10.0

Sound:

What else can I say? The sound in this game is perfect. Everything from the weapon clashes to the battlecries sound amazing. They also did a great job of making the characters voices sound extremely human like instead of these whiny and moaning voices I've come to expect from fighting games. The musical score is also very well done and will have you playing certain levels all over again just to hear the instant hits.

I give the sound: 10.0/10.0

Replayability:

This game has a tremendous amount of replay value. For example, when you beat weapon master mode, they give you a whole new batch of extra missions and, if you work hard enough, extra chapters. You can also try to level up to become the ultimate fighter. The game also features a survival mode where you try to kill as many people as you can in an attempt to break your previous record.

I give the replayability: 10.0/10.0

Challenge:

The difficulty in this game varies. Arcade mode, though very entertaining, is very easy and the only reason to come back to it is to try to beat your time record. Your first time through Weapon Master shouldn't take you too long, but some of the extra missions are rather challenging. This games difficulty is definitely medium, and we have to give it credit for not being too hard or too easy.

I give the challenge: 8.0/10.0

Frustration:

Not much to say here, the only time I can see this game get frustrating is on some of the extra missions when the enemy totally cheats. But it really shouldn't get you frustrated.

I give the frustration: 2.0/10.0

Value:

Soul Calibur 2 has recently become a player's choice title, so it's only $19.99. And for that my friends, it is definitely, definitely worth it. The gameplay is superb, the graphics are superb, and you'll have a great time all the way through. If you don't have it already, buy it now and you will not regret it.

I give the value: 9.0/10.0

Link is a playable character!:

I had to add this! What's a fighting game without the Hero of Time himself? Yes, Link is playable only on the Nintendo Gamecube version with cool moves and an awesome arsenal of weapons at his disposal. I am a huge fan of "The Legend of Zelda" series and am very glad to see Link as a special guest on the Gamecube version of Soul Calibur 2.

I give Link is a playable character!: 10.0/10.0

Overall:

Soul Calibur 2 is not only the best fighting game I've ever played, it is the best I have ever played in my life. With a lengthy weapon master mode, a spectacular cast of characters, and an amazing selection of weapons makes Soul Calibur 2 the best fighting experience of all time.

I give Soul Calibur 2: 9.6/10.0

Conclusion:

So this brings me to my conclusion, like I said in the above box, Soul Calibur 2 is the best fighting experience of all time. If you don't have it already, get it and you will not be disappointed. Superb game!
