Genre: Action

Release Date: February 14th, 2005
Players: 4
Memory Blocks: 5 |
Introduction:
Well good news Star Fox fans, the fourth instalment in the series
made it's debut on the Nintendo Gamecube! Or is it good news...
Story:
The game takes place several years after the disaster on Dinosaur
Planet. (Oh what a disaster it was). But now there is a new threat.
The aparoids are a strange species that are bent on destroying all
things. Human and machine. It's up to the Star Fox Team to stop the
hazard before it goes to far.
Gameplay:
The game runs smoothly the controls are wonderful. Fox, like any
other hind leg walking fox, runs very fast. There are only 10 missions
in the game though. 10 short missions. And quite frankly, most are
very repetitive. You won't believe how many times you have to "destroy
those hatchers!". The ground play isn't too bad, but the levels seem
so large and you so small. The Landmaster Tank provides a little extra
fun, but is very slow and hard to control. One of the positive things
in this game are the Arwing missions. Keeping it real and to the roots
of the Star Fox games.
I give the gameplay: 6.5/10
Graphics:
As in Star Fox: Adventures every hair on Fox and his friends is
detailed. The graphics are very nice. There aren't any frame rate
problems at all. Graphics are one of the few good things in this game.
I give the graphics: 9/10
Sound:
Do you enjoy repetitive audio? No? Well me neither. The sounds of
the vehicles are nice and sound very realistic. You can really immerse
yourself in the great audio. On the other hand, during combat, you are
constantly pelted with the same old thing. "Help me Fox!" "I need your
help Fox!" "Destroy those hatchers Fox!" All very annoying.
I give the sound: 8.5/10
Replayability:
The game is very short, so unless you are one of those
people that love replaying through the whole game on another
difficulty, you might like this. They try to keep the game fun by
adding in classic games to play, but needless to say they don't cut
it.
I give the replayability: 6/10
Challenge:
Unless you play the game on the hardest difficulty you will not
have a hard time beating the 10 easy missions. The enemies on the
ground and air die very quickly and barely put up a fight. I would've
liked to see a free roaming mode for space missions but none was in
site. Everything seems to run on a rail, so you get the same enemies
running the same patterns over and over again. Providing NO challenge.
I give the challenge: 7.5/10
Value:
The game costs $50. Fifty-dollars of my money gone to waste at a
game that should've been at the most, $30. With the short replay value
as the main reason. I beat this game in less than 2 hours, not much
value.
I give the value: 5.5/10
Overall:
Unless you are a die-hard fan of the Star Fox series I would
probably consider a rent. This game is more like an arcade game than a
full fledged action game.
I give Star Fox Assault: 7/10
Conclusion:
Thanks for reading my review.
