Introduction:
Yet another great Super Mario Game too add to the list. This game
is the first game I got with my Gamecube, and I game I still play.
People have said it is not as good as other Super Mario Games, and
sadly I agree. That does Not mean this game is bad. It's just not as
good as the other Super Mario Games, compared to the system they were
on could do. This game still has the great classic Mario Style. But
you will see that its style is just a little different then the other
Mario Games. If you do see this, then it is good to know that The
GREAT Shigeru Miyamoto who is the creator of Super Mario, and is the
one that has worked on nearly every Super Mario Game, did not work on
Super Mario Sunshine. So I guess him working on a game really does
effect the style. Well, Shigeru or No Shigeru, this Mario game is
still fun.
Story:
Super Mario has decided to take a vacation. ( He should, he has
been saving the Princess for over a decade.) Well, when he lands in
Delfino Island he discovers that the whole Island is in chaos. The
Islands beloved Shine Sprites (Which are basically Stars). Have been
captured!!! This has ruined the Island. If that's not enough, there is
a impostor Mario! Someone that looks like Mario and is causing havoc.
Super Mario is put in Prison because the people of Delfino Island
think he is the impostor. He is released to clean up the mess, that
the impostor did. Now, it is up to Super Mario to save Delfino Island.
He will have to clean the muck off the Island and Collect Shine
Sprites.
Gameplay:
The gameplay has Super Mario's Classic Jumps. He will do his ground
pound, his double and triple jump, his wall jump, his side jump. All
the classic Mario fun. But wait! There's more, since this game is not
made by Shigeru, the person who did make it, decided to through a
water pack on Mario's back. (heh, it rhymes.) He will use this to
spray water at enemies and at muck, as well as float for a period of
time. His Water pack will upgrade as you progress through the game. He
will start in the Island. He will freely be able to walk, run and jump
around. This is similar to the castle in Super Mario 64. He will then
go into mini-worlds to collect stars. . .wait! excuse me, I mean SHINE
SPRITES!!! These mini-worlds are similar to the mini-worlds in Super
Mario 64. In these worlds you will encounter new enemies as well as
old. You will have to use your jumps and water pack to collect Stars.
. .Oh, sorry, where is my head, I mean SHINE SPRITES. You will have to
swim and jump to various platforms and keep your balance, which keeps
the classic Mario style. This game to me seemed desperate to rekindle
the love of Super Mario 64, but with a little water pack twist. The
thing I loved is, in every mini-world there would be a mission where
you would take off your water pack and go through this classic Mario
stage, just 3-D. There would be the rotating platforms and the daring
jumps. Well, the gameplay in this game is fun, even with a water pack.
In fact, maybe it is better with the water pack. It gives the Mario
style a new twist.
I give the gameplay: 8/10
Graphics:
The graphics are very good. Super Mario looks exactly like you
would expect him to look on the Gamecube, except with a water pack on
his back. The enemies look good, the new enemies look quite weird,
like a pile of Jell-0 or something (One of the new enemies does, you
will know who I'm talking about.). The worlds look very nice, good
detail. I really liked that in some of the mini-worlds that you could
look way off in the distance, beyond the mini-word stage itself, and
see another mini-world, one that you have or will play. I thought that
was neat.
I give the graphics: 8.5/10
Sound:
The sound is of course good. In all Mario games sound is good. You
will hear the classic Mario sound, somewhere in the game. The sound FX
are perfect, Mario's voice is just as you remember from Super Mario
64. The background sound is good.
I give the sound: 7.5/10
Replayability:
The replayability is good, almost as much as Super Mario 64. You
will play the game and love it, then a few months or a year later, put
it in and play it all over again. I will put it in and get a star,
every once in awhile. . . . .DAMN! I did it again, Shine Sprite, I
will put it in and get a Shine Sprite.
I give the replayability: 8/10
Challenge:
The Challenge is good. You will have to master your jumps and
timing, just like in all Mario games. But this water pack, it will add
a new challenge to the game. You will have to master aiming it at
things. It's just a little added bonus.
I give the challenge: 7/10
Value:
The Value of this game is good. I would buy it new, in fact I did.
I have to have all the Super Mario Games. If you like Super Mario
games, then you should like this one.
Overall:
Overall this game has classic Mario style, but with a twist. The
graphics are very good, everything looks great. The sound is good,
Sound FX are great. The replayability is good, basically like any
other Mario games replayability. The Challenge is good, and the value
is good. Overall this game does play a little different then other
Super Mario games, but that does not mean it's horrible, You might say
that you don't like it as much as Super Mario 64, but that does not
mean it's bad, Super Mario 64 is a hard game to look up too.
I give Super Mario Sunshine:
8.5/10
Conclusion:
I got this game when I got my Gamecube. I loved it. I played it
until I beat it. I did think it was different then other Mario Games,
not just because of the water pack, it just felt a little different,
then I found out it wasn't made by Shigeru Miyamoto. That really
changes things. I do hear that Shigeru Miyamoto is working on a TRUE
SEQUEL to Super Mario 64. I know Shigeru won't let us down, he is
making a classic. I can't wait for it to come out. Wait, is saying
this making it seem like Super Mario Sunshine failed? Well, I love
Super Mario Sunshine, I just had to high expectation I think, I think
most people do for Super Mario games. Super Mario Sunshine isn't bad,
it's just not as good as other Super Mario games. I guess Shigeru
Miyamoto should just be the maker of all Mario games from now on. To
the person who made Super Mario Sunshine, You didn't make a bad game,
just not as good as Shigeru Miyamoto's Mario games, but he did create
Mario, and has worked on Mario's persona for over a decade. Well, I'm
off to get me one of them Stars.. . . . . . . .DAMN!!! I mean Shine
Sprites.
