Introduction:
A housewife's dream! Mario unleashes his inner plumber.
It's... Super Mario Sunshine! Woohoo!
Story:
Mario is on vacation with Peach and is going to Isle Delfino.
Sadly, their plane almost crashes when there is some mysterious goop
on the runway. Mario finds F.L.U.D.D, the Flash Liquidizer Ultra
Dousing Device right by an islander and uses it to restore the runway.
Later, Mario is sent to court and convicted of pollution of the island
by some poor evidence- the eyewitness picture of Mario is terribly
drawn, only the plaintiffs get to speak, and the game throws in some
court language to make it seem authentic, but for people who know what
happens, it makes it seem bad.
Judge: Blah blah blah Mario is not allowed to leave...
Peach: Objection!
Judge: Overruled.
That's what the Judge says. Mario's punishment is to clean the island,
and he is not allowed to leave until he cleans up.
But who is behind all of this?
Gameplay:
Pretty good. Most of the gameplay is taken up by FLUDD.
Running is used by the control stick.
A: Jump. You can do triple jumps as well and wall jumps.
B: Talk and slide while running
X: Change nozzles
R: Shoot the nozzles
Z: Map
C stick: Camera
Y: Somewhat first person view.
L: Center, and ground-pound when in the air.
I was disappointed by the overuse of FLUDD- there were not many
"Marioish" moves besides the triple-jump.
The running is a little awkward-Mario moves just a bit to rocky to be
real, and his jumps go little jump, little jump, huge jump.
Overall, the game is good.
I give the gameplay: 9/10
Graphics:
The graphics are somewhat clayish, and are exactly like Mario
Tennis or Mario Party for Gamecube. The graphics are exactly like what
is says on GamePro magazine. There is nothing to hide, although, it
does seem a little too cartoony.
I give the graphics: 8/10
Sound:
The sound is pretty decent. Mario's voice is regular, and his voice
sounds different when he is low on health. The music does get a bit
repetitive, but still has a certain charm.
I give the sound: 7/10
Replayability:
You can redo just about everything, except mini boss battles with
shadow Mario.
I give the replayability: 9.5/1-
Challenge:
The challenge is little. FLUDD has a lot of water to hold and areas
to recharge are plentiful. The enemies are easy, but there are no
classic enemies such as Goombas or Koopa Troopas. This game is
unorthodox and is definitely not a classic.
I give the challenge: 6/10
Frustration:
There are no classic enemies, and water is just the only way
besides jumping to kill enemies. There needs to be more variety to the
game, and there are only so many times you can collect coins and
collect Shine Sprites.
I give the frustration: 8/10
Value:
Rental? Yes, if you like Mario and cleaning.
Buy? No. I'd guess it'd be about $9-10.00 for a rental at most.
I give the value: $9.00/$12.00
Overall:
This game is fun at first, but eventually loses its fun with the
same levels and slightly different things to do. There's always a
"collect the 8 red coins" level and a "clean off the road" level. I
wouldn't recommend a rental, but I wouldn't stop you if you did.
I give Super Mario Sunshine:
7/10
Conclusion:
It's pretty much the same as overall. If you truly like Mario,
you'll like this game.
