Introduction:
The second multiplayer Zelda game here is a fun play, with hours of
gameplay and puzzles. Here's my review.
Story:
The story is extremely similar to Four Swords and Minish Cap.
Zelda is worried about the Four Sword, and then Vaati comes and
kidnaps her. Link pulls the Four Sword, gets three clones of him, and
sets off to find her.
Gameplay:
This game is intended for multiplayer use with the Game Boy
Advance, but it has a one player option. I'll discuss the one player.
Your controls are a lot like a GBA game. You move with the control
stick, slice with the B button, talk and use items with A, roll and
lift with R, switch stances with C-stick, pause with start, and
overall it's the same.
Here are your stances.
X=Link
XXXX X X
XX X X
XX X
Also with Y you can control one Link at a time while the others sit
there invulnerable.
The gameplay is incredibly easy. You slice enemies a few hits, and
their explosions are like Wind Waker. You move fast, you fight
quickly, and you are easy to control.
Also, instead of rupees there are force gems. You must get 2000 by the
end of the level to power up your swords and destroy the gates.
With a charged up sword, you can shoot beams with full health and be
stronger. And trust me, you'll know when you get them all. If you
don't get them all by the end you'll go back to the beginning but be
warped back once you get 2000 force gems.
And they are EVERYWHERE!
At the end of each level there are Force Fairies that you can have 99
of which heal you when you die.
Also, you have items such as the fire rod, Roc's Feather, and the
boomerang. They can be upgraded by the Great Fairies.
I liked the gameplay but it became a little repetitive after a while.
I give the gameplay: 9/10
Graphics:
There are pixels. This looks more like a longer, slightly better
GBA game, or a DS game at the very most. There is no voice acting
except for annoying lower Wind Waker voices, and it looks just like
the Four Swords and Minish Cap games. They look smoother on a GBA, and
not as good on a TV. This game seems rushed.
I give the graphics: 7/10
Sound:
The music does get very repetitive. In some Zelda games there are a
few remixed songs. This game has almost only remixed songs which
aren't very good. There are four Links with different voices
Green Link: Regular Wind Waker voice
Red Link: Higher Wind Waker Voice
Blue Link: Lower Wind Waker voice than Green
Purple: Lower Wind Waker voice than Blue
The Dark Link you face has an even higher voice than Red, and it just
laughs and screams. It is extremely repetitive and not that good.
I give the sound: 5/10
Replayability:
You can redo anything you want. You choose any level you beat, but
it does get annoying after a while.
I give the replayability: 10/10
Challenge:
There is not much challenge in the enemies, but sometimes the
puzzles are so crazy that you get confused, and some puzzles require
you to have certain items...
I give the challenge: 3/10
Frustration:
Sadly, with the series of dungeons and levels, you never get much
of a feeling of freedom. On Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess, you
could ride on the field on horseback, and Wind Waker had sailing. No
feeling of freedom graces this game.
Also, the game is so long that you need to go through 8 areas, each
with 4-5 annoying levels where you go around and around before you
face a boss that is easily defeated. The game is too long for comfort.
This game is really fun when you first get it, but it gets boring
after a while, when you don't want to search rooms and rooms and rooms
for a friggin' key and hit switches. You want to kill bosses and bad
guys, but there are not too many bad guys.
I give the frustration: 8/10
Value:
This game is about $9.00 used, $20.00 new perhaps. I don't know.
I give the value: $9.00/$20.00
Multiplayer Extras:
There is a Coliseum where you can battle others and you compete
with your friends for the most enemies killed and force gems
collected. Even when allied against them you can hurt them, causing
rivalry.
Play this with a friend instead of by yourself. It's a lot more fun.
I give the multiplayer extras: 9/10
Overall:
I would not get this game if you don't like Zelda too much. If you
like these type of games a lot then go get it, but Wind Waker is
better than this 2-D should-be GBA game. This game isn't a fit for the
Gamecube. This game felt a bit rushed into, but if you like Zelda,
then get it.
I give The Legend of Zelda: Four
Swords Adventure:
7/10
Conclusion:
I felt this game inspired hours of gameplay. It's good for those
little sisters who want something easy to play, as well for those 2-D
fans.
Get this if you want a new game, but rent it, because its long-term
gameplay value is low.
