  Game Name:

Genre:
Pinball

Jupiter

Nintendo

Japan: April 14th, 1999
United States: June 28th, 1999
Europe: October 5th, 2000

Introduction:

Hey all! I'm finally back to write yet another exciting review! I will write about Pokemon Pinball for Gameboy Color.

Let me tell a quick story about this game.

I recently got it, see. But I also a Guinness World Record book 2007. It said in that book that the world record in high score for this game was around 313M points. Well, I managed to get 309M WITHOUT EVEN LOSING A BALL YET. But then, I had to pause the game. When I paused it, the game froze up for some stupid reason and I had to reset.

It made me mad, see. REAL mad.

Story:

No story at all. The OBJECT however is to catch all 151 Pokemon in the pinball machines. I'll explain HOW in just a moment. But MY object is to regain that World Record High score again.

Gameplay:

Right Flipper: A
Left Flipper: left on D pad. You can bump the table, but I never do. You can do so by pressing
B or right on the D pad. Useless if you ask me.

Now here's you catch and evolve Pokemon.

To catch:
You must shoot the right loop two times in order to open the Bellsprout/Cloyster hole. Once you do, try to get the ball into it.
After you do that, CATCH'EM MODE will start! You have 2:00 to catch the randomly selected Pokemon that appears. Now, first, you have to ID the pokemon by hitting the Voltorb/Shellders. You must hit each of them 6 times to ID the pokemon. After you've done that, a pokemon will physical appear. You must it 4 times to catch it. Easy right?

Easier than evolving, that's for sure.

To evolve:
Once you catch a Pokemon, you can evolve it. (Although it's not required) Here's how you do it: Shoot the Left loop 3 times to open the evolve cave (ditto/Slowbro) Then, try to get it in the hole. Once you do, you can choose which pokemon you want to evolve. Now, EVOLUTION MODE will begin. Here's you evolve: Hit either a voltorb/Shellder, Digiett/Psyduck/poliwag, or the bonus multiplier walls to make an EXP, fire stone, thunder stone, or moon stone to appear randomly anywhere in the board. Get it with the pinball. Once you get 3, you must now hit the ball into a hole right in the middle of the machine. Only then will the pokemon evolve, quite a lot of work if you ask me.

Another thing, if you hit a Digelett/Psyduck/Poliwag 3 times, MAP MOVE MODE will begin. This mode is simple: Shoot any loop  that's lit and hit the ball into the hole in the middle of the board. You will move to another city. Different cities have different pokemon in them that appear randomly in CATCH'EM MODE!

One more thing: Once you catch 3 pokemon in one game, a bonus stage will appear! A few are Seel, Meowth, and Diglett stages.

I give the gameplay: 10/10

Graphics:

I guess there pretty good, especially the animation the pokemon have in the pokedex.

I give the graphics: 8/10

Sound:

Exactly the same as a regular Gameboy game. Not difference to me at all.

I give the sound: 6/10

Replayability:

Playing the table over and over has really good replayability, but catching 'em all doesn't.

I give the replayability: 8/10

Challenge:

Quite a challenge if you ask me. Especially evolving and getting Mew and Mewtwo. Plus filling the pokedex completely. Not to mention getting the World Record high score. ;-)

I give the challenge: 10/10

Frustration:

It gave lots of it when my game froze. But other than that, it's not really a maddening game. It's just fun to play!

I give the frustration: 6/10

Value:

Mine was $4 bucks used. Very nice.

I give the value: 10/10

Differences in Tables:

Here's each tables unique features:

Blue Table:

-A little arrow guides the ball into Cloyster and Slowbro's mouth and also to the 3 shellders.
-It has Poliwag and Psyduck as MAP MOVE MODE buttons instead of Diglett.
-It's blue (not green because it would die if it was.)
-I think it's easier to shoot the loops than on the Red table.

Red Table:

-It's Red, not blue
-you must shoot the left loop AGAIN to get the ball into the evolve cave.
-Diglett is on both sides for the MAP MOVE MODE buttons.
-I think it's harder to shoot the loops.
-You can only go to certain cities, not all of them.
-Nothing guides your ball into the Catch'em holes, Voltorb, or evolve cave holes. (except your flippers :-)

I give the differences in tables: 748327/843047

Overall:

I great pinball game that will give you lots of fun!  Definitely worth its value.

I give Pokemon Pinball: 10/10

Conclusion:

That's all folks!
