Introduction:
This review is about one of my most favorite games for the n64.
It's the kind of game that is good to play by urself; but really
shines when playing with other ppl. Enjoy my review...
Story:
The story is pretty good. It starts with a young mage that releases
a very strong demon named Skorne who takes over the world and brings
destruction to it. You, as ur chosen class, have to find all the runes
and obelisks (source of power things) to weaken Skorne's power on the
6 gateways to different places. The main objective of the game is to
beat Skorne and send him back to the burning hells.
Gameplay:
This game has great gameplay. You pick ur class as a valkyrie,
wizard, warrior, or an archer. You have a very special move which will
kill enemies most of the time in one hit, a smaller range but in my
opinion more powerful special move, and a basic turbo attack that is a
powered up regular move. You have a bar that recharges when using a
very special move, special move, or turbo move. It is a very effective
system for that. You travel to different lvls. To beat each lvl, find
the runes, and obelisks to unlock the wizards power who helps u
throughout the game. You buy strength, speed, magic, and armor at the
main wizard guy and u get more health as u lvl up. Your max lvl is 99.
When you hit lvl10 u become a new kind of class (wizard becomes mage)
then 25, 50, 80 I think is the final one. You end up getting a pet at
lvl50 that flies next to u and attacks when u attack with magic balls.
The gameplay kicks so much ass.
I give the gameplay: 10/10
Graphics:
The graphics r sub-par. I find them decent but sometimes the
lighting is too dark. The visuals still pull it off.
I give the graphics: 6/10
Sound:
The sound has a lot to do with the battles in this game. When you
use ur special it sounds what it is; whether your calling a rock
shower down (rocks smashing) or shooting lots of arrows (arrows being
shot.) The music is pretty cool too but it's kind of quiet in the
background, drowned out by the sounds of battle.
I give the sound: 8/10
Replayability:
The replayability is great because it makes u want to start a new
class and lvl them up. Find their new classes and what their pet is. I
think the replayability is pretty sweet on this game.
I give the replayability: 9/10
Challenge:
The difficulty can be set for easy, medium, and hard but it's
really not that hard of a game. It just takes patience to lvl urself
and beat each lvl. If you pass a rune or obelisk it might be hard to
find them. I don't think that it's really that challenging though
I give the challenge:
6.5/10
Value:
I think this game isn't worth that much cause it has been out for
so long. Considering the new one came out for gamecube awhile ago I
think it's only like $10. It's a great game and should be picked up.
I give the value: 9/10
Overall:
This game has great gameplay, replayability, and value. The sound
is pretty good too but the challenge and graphics aren't the best.
Nevertheless, this game is one of the greatest I have ever played.
I give Gauntlet Legends: 9/10
Conclusion:
I love this game and I used to have a lvl99 wizard. I have
restarted with 2 of my friends and we are having a great time. It
doesn't take much to get u sucked into this game. I hope you enjoyed
this review and hope you get this if u have an n64 or gamecube (the
gamecube has more features and characters but it's fine for n64.)
