  Game Name:
Mario Tennis
System:
N64
Genre:
Sports / Tennis
Players:
1-4
Developer:
Camelot
Publisher:
Nintendo
Release Date:
Japan: July 21st, 2000
United States: August 25th, 2000
Europe: November 3rd, 2000

Introduction:

Well, it's been a while sinceI wrote I review, but TM is back! This time, reviewing a game that I've spent sooo much time on. Mario Tennis. A game that takes forever to beat completely, but forever is fun.

Story:

Well, it looks like everyone wants to beat everyone else in Tennis. Not much of a story, but since this is the game after Mario Golf, they thought golf was boring and moved to the tennis courts!

Gameplay:

Just like any other Tennis game, you move around and swing the racket. Although Mario Tennis takes it to the limits. If you press A repeatedly, you can do a power topspin that makes the ball leave an orange trail. If B, it's a slice that leaves a blue trail. Pressing A and B together repeatedly, if the ball is high enough, will; give you a SMASH shot. Unlike some other tennis games, the characters have types. Power, Tricky (my favorite), All-around, Technique, and speed. Tricky gives you lots of spin on the ball, and Technique gives you great control over it. The others explain themselves. There are also lots different modes to choose from. Like ring shot, tournys special games and multiplayer.

I give the gameplay: 8/10

Graphics:

What you would expect from an N64 game. Polygons. But the movement of the ball and the players are very good.

I give the graphics: 8/10

Sound:

Perfect. When a racket hits the tennis ball it sounds like real life. Well, only if it's a topspin or a regular serve. A "Nice!" serve sounds unreal and a slice just sounds weird. But that's a Mario game for ya. It fits the game perfectly!

I give the sound: 9/10

Replayability:

Yes, it is possible to replay this game. Erase all your trophies, Exhibition scores and N64 data, and do it all over again! No. It takes forever to get all trophies. Maybe a year! Recently, my little sister erased my PERFECT game! All trophies, beating every character on Intense in Exhibition! And for some reason, I don't like having to do it all over again!

I give the replayability: 5/10

Challenge:

Hard. VERY Hard. It takes serious skill to get all those high level trophies. I can't really describe how hard it can get.
But remember this: PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!

I give the challenge: 5/10

Frustration:

You know, I've had times when I would scream at the T.V and hurl my controller around all because of the frustration the game has in it. I think that explains how much frustration the game has.

I give the frustration: 10/10

Value:

I bought it for $30 2 years ago. $30!!! I couldn't believe it! But I still got $30.43 out of my wallet and bought it. I couldn't believe how expensive it was. But now the price has gone down a lot! Buy this game now.

I give the value: 8/10

Overall:

Overall, this game is a unique tennis game in a good way. You will never get tired of it. Especially when you play your friends in it. A great game!

I give Mario Tennis: 9/10

Conclusion:

If you're a tennis fan or just a regular sports fan, buy this game. It has actually taught me a lot about tennis and the way it works. Go get it this very minute.
