Introduction:
First Pilotwings Game I played, first flight game I played. A game
that did a good job and then some.
Gameplay:
In Pilotwings 64 you get to fly a gyrocopter, a rocket pack, hang
glide, and even get shot out of a canon. You get to do these things on
a variety of different islands, some bigger then others, with their
own design with mountains, buildings, roads, bridges, fields, etc.
With the exception of the cannon, you can pretty much free roam as you
wish around these islands. It can be lots of fun to just take the
gyrocopter and just fly around the islands, speed through skyscrapers,
try to just avoid mountains, and just fly around having fun.
But the real point of the game is to go into these worlds and do
missions with these flying machines. These missions are fun and vary
from going through a set of rings and landing properly, actually
taking a photograph of something while hang gliding and getting it in
focus, to shooting targets and a giant monster with the gyrocopter.
This variety keeps the game going and provides continuing challenge
and fun.
As you go along you will unlock new islands and harder missions, score
well and unlock a bonus game, such as a Cannon Bonus Game where you
try and shoot your character out of a cannon and into the center of a
giant target, this is a very fun Bonus Game which can keep you
replaying.
All in all this game offers alot, a great variety of islands and
missions, and flying machines to really keep it varied and giving you
the ability to switch it up. All the flying mechanics are wonderful,
they all control how you'd want them too.
I give the gameplay: 8/10
Graphics:
This game has some fantastic graphics, and lots of them, The
islands look great, and all the little additions in the island
look great as well, they really make the graphics. The
characters and their flying machines look pretty cool as well.
I give the graphics: 8/10
Sound:
Game has good sound. The background music is decent, provides
some good listening tunes while you fly. The Soundfx are great,
the gyrocopter sounds perfect the way it starts up and takes
off, and how it flies. Getting shot out of the cannon sounds
good, they did a fantastic job on the soundfx.
I give the sound: 7.5/10
Replayability:
This game is really great at replayability. You can replay this
game over and over, since there is so much to do. You can replay
certain missions, use different flying machines, are just fly
around for fun.
I give the replayability: 9/10
Challenge:
This game can get pretty challenging, which makes the game even
better. The challenge curve is perfect, it goes up gradually at
a perfect pace throughout the game. The game can get pretty hard
at times, where you have to replay a mission over and over to
get it right. The game also gives you a score based on how well
you do, which can make it even more challenging, getting 100
percent can be quite a challenge sometimes.
I give the challenge:
7.5/10
Frustration:
Not a really frustrating game. Pretty nice and peaceful, have
fun and fly around. Yeah you might get a little upset or
frustrated if you have to replay a mission a few times, but that
can really be expected with any decent game with a good
challenge.
I give the frustration: 2/10
Value:
Game is worth what is usually sells for, it's a fun game. My
brother bought this game for $15 CDN used at a Video Store, and
that was definitely worth it, we have replayed it countless
times, taken turns on the Cannon sure can make for a great time.
Overall:
Overall this is one solid N64 game. It is incredibly fun and
gives you a ton of things to do and redo. It will provide hours
of fun, and to this day is still one of the funnest flight
games, it's still my favourite.
I give Pilotwings 64: 8.5/10
Conclusion:
Pilotwings is a fantastic game and just continues to show how
amazing the 64 is and how these fun games can be made, a game
that will not stop being fun, a game you can play years later
and still have a blast.
