Game Name: Adventure Island 2
System: NES
Genre: Action
Developer/Publisher: Hudson Soft
Release Date: 1991
Players: 1 |
Introduction: Based on the 1st version, its prequel,
comes the 2nd instalment with basically the same story line with the
challenge lowered down a bit and improved graphics with the main
character, Master Higgins at it again saving the girl. It's a 2d
platformer like many NES games are where you have to time your jumps
and all just like Mario and Mega Man and all that.
Story:
Nothing much, Master Higgins saving the girl and living happily
until the next game which is Adventure Island III but I'm not here to
review that game.
Gameplay:
The Game is pretty average with good controlling watching for
yourself. You run along with eggs on the ground where you much break
to get new items like throwing hammer, and etc, you also can get
little dinosaurs to hop onto with a special ability for each one. One
can walk in fire and etc, the other ones can swim and fly and all
that. You can also get a little skate board to hop onto, but you will probably get hit and fall of anyway, lucky
though you won't die. Also
instead of time you gotta get food along the way to add more time so
you don't die because of time, you also loose more time if you hit
rocks and etc, but if you hit a bird or snail and etc you will die on
the spot. There is one thing I find annoying and that is one you swim,
it controls terribly, really terrible, he's slow and you are an easy
target.
I give the gameplay: 6/10
Graphics:
Graphics are pretty decent with nice colours and it is a huge
improvement over the original with better pixels and etc. The game
looks very nice, The game has little to no flickering, possibly none
at all which is great considering so many NES games have it. It has
nice backgrounds, trees and clouds and etc and it also moves too as you
move along so it's not all stale; not as good as seen in SMB3 and
such, but still that doesn't ruin the game.
I give the graphics: 8/10
Sound:
Nice music as you go along, not at catchy as some other games though,
the woop sound as you jump is there and bop sound as you hit the
target is there too, you know basic sounds, I hate writing about sound
on NES games because they are nearly all the same, very basic. It does
not matter but I just find it hard to write about it when that's all it
is.
I give the sound: 7/10
Replayability:
I play the game every now and then, its not a game where you keep
coming back, it gets boring about 30 mins after play and you either
die or turn it off. There is some gameplay there though; if only it didn't
get to hard so soon. Still not as hard as the 1st game. It might be
good for a rainy Saturday but you may not be playing it for long.
I give the replayability: 5/10
Challenge:
It is big, it gets too hard to soon in my opinion, and you might find
yourself using the continue cheat, 1st stage is all right but the 2nd
stage gets really hard but besides that the game is not all that bad,
check it out, its good for a rainy Saturday.
I give the challenge: 8/10
Value:
The game is all right, NES games are only about $5, maybe not rare
ones but this should not be much, The game is worth $5 but not really
anything above that unless it's complete. The game does have some
gameplay so pick it up, you may or may not like it.
I give the value: 7/10
Overall:
The game has given me some frustration and some entertainment and
it's good if you like the Adventure Island series and is one of the
best in the series but I would say try the other games 1st, in my
opinion this is better then the 1st one but then again you may like it
better you may not.
I give Adventure Island 2: 7/10
Conclusion:
Go and play it, the game does not deserve to be ignored, you should
try it, you may be surprised but like I said before it is good for a
rainy day but you could find yourself coming back sooner or later.
Until next time, good luck.
