Game Name: Ghosts 'N Goblins
System: NES
Genre: Action
Developer/Publisher: Capcom
Release Date: June 1, 1986
Players: 2 Alternating |
Introduction:
From the opening scene of The Devil snatching away the Princess, we
are drown into the game. We are put right in the middle of battle.
This game is a very famous game. It has been remade on many different
platforms. I remember playing it when I was 3. I remember getting a
little scared of the game. I recently bought this game on eBay. It is
my first NES game that I have that has the box and instructions. This
game is a true classic. The Story is clear, you are a Knight and must
save the princess from the Devil.
Story:
Another Classic Story. The Princess has been kidnapped and you must
save her. She has been kidnapped by THE DEVIL!!! Well, maybe being
kidnapped by The Devil is a little different then the classic story.
Gameplay:
The gameplay in this game is very good. You will have to jump and duck
to avoid enemies. You will fight with one of 5 different weapons. They
are Javelin, Torches, Sword, Axe, and Cross. The gameplay is very fast
and intense. You will have to be very quick. There will be enemies
literally popping up from the ground. You will have to move fast.
There is a time limit in the stages. The jumping style is very
different then I have seen in other NES games.
I give the gameplay: 8/10
Graphics:
The graphics are very good. As it says on the Ghost N Goblins box
"State-of-the-Art High Resolution Graphics". The characters in this
game are very good. All the enemies are done very well. The background
is good. The graphics in whole are very good. Better than most NES
games.
I give the graphics: 8.5/10
Sound:
The sound is nice in this game. You will be hearing the sound of your
weapon being thrown a lot. Since you will have to be pressing the
B-Button repeatedly very fast. The background music is ok, it fits
nicely with the game.
I give the sound: 6.5/10
Replayability:
This game has exquisite replayability. You will be able to play this
game over and over again. I know I do. It's just a pure 100% action
game. The great thing about 100% action NES games is, that they are
great for intense replayability.
I give the replayability: 8.5/10
Challenge:
WOW, this game has a supreme challenge. It's one of the hardest if not
THE hardest NES game. Most people haven't even beaten it, and I'm one
of them. I have been able to make it far in the game, but I always
die. This game is hard, the first stage is hard. It only has about 6
stages. That is it. But that is all it needs because it is so damn
hard.
I give the challenge: 10/10!!!
Value:
Now, I am not sure of the exact price of this game. I had to pay 23
Canadian with shipping for it. But it did come with box and
instructions. Now, if this game is $5 then it would be a definite buy
for most people. If it is $10 then it's a 90% buy. But, if it's $20 it
is a consider buy. You will have to like this type of high action side
scrolling style to buy this game. I would pay $20 just for the cart,
but that is just because I really like this game.
Overall:
This game has a very nice gameplay style. You will have to jump and
duck and use your weapon at just the right time. You will have to be
very fast, there is no time to rest. The graphics are extraordinary.
The sound FX are basic but nice. The Background Sound has a nice fit
with the game style. The replayability is great. The Challenge is
supreme, this game is incredibly hard, I cannot express that enough.
The value depends on price and on the person.
I give Ghosts N Goblins : 8/10
Conclusion:
This game, which is apparently one of Captain Commando's "Challenge
Series" is an extraordinary game. It came out back in the 80's and has
been seen and played by many people on many platforms. This is a
perfect example of a great classic/arcade action game. It's 100%
action with no time to rest.
