Introduction:
Kirby's first adventure in colour. Kirby started out on the Black and
white Game Boy Screen. People loved it, so Nintendo decided to branch
on the franchise and show Kirby in Colour on the big screen in Kirby's
Adventure. While Kirby still appears most often on a handheld, his
appearance on consoles, has left its mark, and here is the first mark.
Story:
A classic Kirby Story. Dreams have been taken away, and Kirby sets
off to make things right again.
Gameplay:
This has the classic Kirby gameplay, so if you know it, then this
shouldn't be really anything new. Kirby enters many different stages
and tries to get across them. Along the way he encounters
different enemies he will have to destroy or try to avoid. Kirby can
suck in almost every enemy. Once sucked in he can shoot them out to
destroy other enemies. But the thing that makes
Kirby, well Kirby is the fact he can swallow the enemy and take their
ability.
He can be Fire Kirby, Sword Kirby, Freeze Kirby, Tornado Kirby, Spark
Kirby, and the list goes on and on. A nice variety of abilities he can
take on. But not all enemies have abilities he can take, but most do.
Kirby can also fly. He can suck in air and become one pink filled ball
of air. He can float around above enemies and holes. That's not to say
he can't just jump over these holes and enemies.
But don't just think you can fly across all the stages; there are
enemies that will fly at Kirby, cannons that shoot at him, and cramp
areas where you have to face enemies head on. There are also water
areas in some stages where you have to try and get past enemies, or
try and attack them.
There are big bosses and mini-bosses. They are all the same at the
base, they move around in a pattern and somehow try to attack Kirby, then they
throw something at Kirby he can suck in, and shoot back to destroy them.
You will have to learn each bosses routine in order to defeat it.
There are also some bonus games, a crane game, a
western gun game which is similar to Wild Gunman, and some others.
Kirby's Adventure is a very simple game to get right into. Anyone can
just pick up the controller and play and understand what to do. It's
fun to go across these stages, grab an ability, use it, then chuck it
for a new one.
Actually, the original Kirby idea was to make a game anyone could
play and beat, and that is exactly what happened. This is a fun game to play
for beginners and more advanced players.
I give the gameplay: 8.5/10
Graphics:
The graphics are good. Kirby looks nice, and all the enemies look
different and do have a cool look that goes with the game and relates
them to their ability. The environments look nice, a background that
will make you smile with it's loveable simplicity. There is this tower
that Kirby walks across that looks 3D! And not some cheesy degraded
3D, but a good looking 3D. It must have wowed people back in '93; not
just then, it wowed me a few years ago and still does.
I give the graphics: 8.5/10
Sound:
The sound is good. The background music fits right into the game,
and the sound fx are great as well. I would swear some of the sound fx
are taken from Lolo.
Which wouldn't surprise me since Lolo and Kirby are both made by HAL,
and that the newer Kirby games feature Lolo and Lala! I don't know how
that happened, but it did. But getting back to the sound, it's very
good.
I give the sound: 8/10
Replayability:
This game does have quite good replayability. It is a very fun,
simple game. A game with somewhat close replayability to SMB.
Where you can put it in, have some fun on stages you love, and then
shut it off. The game is never frustrating, just a fun game you can
play every once in awhile.
I give the replayability: 7/10
Challenge:
This category is going to get the lowest score. Kirby was always
meant to be a very simple game anyone could finish. That is what this
game will be. You should breeze past the first few worlds,
and that is on your first time playing.
There may be some some slightly difficult stages near the end, which
will take you a few tries to beat. There may be that one or two bosses
that you need to verse a few times to figure out his/her pattern to
be able to defeat. But not a very challenging game. But I do
want to make this very clear, this doesn't take away from the fun
factor of the game, in fact, it might even make the game better.
You will never get frustrated, and it won't be so easy you'll shut it
off.
It's a fun simple game.
I give the challenge: 4/10
Value:
The value of this game is great. I was just searching online and it
is selling at around 10 dollars and less. At that price it is
definitely worth it. I had to shell out 20 dollars for it a few years
ago, that is what they charged in my town. But do I regret it? Not at
all, it's one of my favourite NES games. So if I like it at 20, it should
be great at 10.
Overall:
Overall Kirby's Adventure is a must buy and play for any NES
Player, Kirby Fan, or Nintendo Player. It has some great simplistic
gameplay, some great graphics, cool sound, good replayability,
and somewhat reminiscent replayability of SMB's.
It also boasts a great price point, and it being easy doesn't effect
how fun this game is. If you want an easy fun game you can play over
and over, then get this game.
I give Kirby's Adventure: 8.5/10
Conclusion:
Kirby's Adventure is an amazing NES Game. It is a game anyone can
play, finish, and have fun. A game with gameplay like no other,
Kirby's Adventure has taken a seat on the list of great NES games. Up
until I played Kirby's Adventure, which was my first Kirby game, I
thought all Kirby games were unusually easy, and therefore not much
fun. This game surprised me, it's not that incredibly easy, and it was
alot more fun than I was expecting. I will cherish this game for
years.
