  Game Name: Mighty Final Fight
System: NES
Genre: Action/Fighting
Developer/Publisher: Capcom
Release Date: July, 1993
Players: 1

Introduction:

I was intrigued by the title of the game so I decided to give it a try. This game is very similar to Double Dragon in almost every respect.

Story:

"Inside the city walls lives the daughter of the mayor, Jessica. Her beauty radiates throughout the city and gives the citizens the power to survive. But now a villain attempts to have this beacon of light all to himself." Then the evil man shows up in a cutscene looking out a window from his skyrise apartment complex. "I can't believe that I've actually fallen in love with the girl. She will be mine...." "A couple days later..." Scene of a boxing manager and two of his strong boxers. The manager is talking on the phone. "What?! Jessica....kidnapped!?! What have you done to her, Cody? Me?!! This is the work of the Mad Gear Gang. What do you think guy?" Scene fades to black "Yes. There's not a moment to spare. Let's go!

Gameplay:

If you have played Double Dragon then you already know how to play this game. I almost thought it was Double Dragon when I first started playing it. Combat is mostly hand punching, jumping, and special combat moves learned through experience levels. There are 3 special weapons you can have, a sledge-hammer, some knives, and one other weapon. However you will lose these weapons fairly quickly in gameplay. The weapon you can find depends on which of the three characters you choose to play in the beginning of the game. You can play as the manager, or one of the two boxers. Gameplay was very smooth and easy to keep track of your own character. You earn weapons and health at certain points by punching open rolling barrels. You won't get easily bored because every two or three stages there is a boss to fight. The only thing I didn't like was that some of the enemy bosses were identical to each other.

I give the gameplay: 9/10

Graphics:

The graphics were fairly well done for a NES game. They are very close to Double Dragon II or III graphics. Every character is quite recognizable and you should have no trouble figuring out what any of the images in the game are supposed to represent. I would like to personally thank the graphic designers for making some truly well done images.

I give the graphics: 10/10

Sound:

Sound was decent but nothing spectacular. It was repetitive after a while but since you move through stages relatively quickly I didn't seem to notice it much. It wasn't unpleasant or annoying.

I give the sound: 5/10

Replayability:

Well, you can replay the game as one of the other characters which have different moves and skills. Besides that, there isn't much replay value.

I give the replayability: 5/10

Challenge:

The challenge rating of the game is somewhat low due to the fact that without trying very hard I was able to get through the first two areas very easily and beat the end of stage bosses. There are only five areas in total. After the second stage things get progressively harder.

I give the challenge: 4/10

Value:

I found the game to be a valuable experience and didn't regret playing through it a few times to see what the different characters were like. If you find it I would recommend you buy it.

I give the value: 8/10

Overall:

All in all it was an enjoyable game worth a few hours out of my day. The only problems were a relatively easy difficulty rating and the fact that it was a Double Dragon clone.

I give Mighty Final Fight: 8/10

Conclusion:

This game is a great way to spend some hours fighting street gang members and to ponder why the game isn't discussed very much in NES forums.
