Introduction:
This racing game may be one of the first of its type when it came
out. This game is fun to play with your friends and will keep you
entertained for hours.
Story:
You are a race car driver. You want to win races and upgrade your
car so it can be the best on the track. No one is going to stand in
your way.
Gameplay:
Race a car around various tracks while collecting powerups and
avoiding traps and other cars which can slow you down if your car hits
them. After each race, if you win, you can upgrade one of a number of
options for your car. What choices you make here are critical to the
performance of your car in later races, because your opponents become
smarter and faster as the game progresses. Try to avoid hitting the
sides of the course and your fellow competitors because it slows down
your car unless you have very good acceleration. The goal is to win
the race.
I give the gameplay: 10/10
Graphics:
Remember this is an NES game, so the graphics aren't out of this
world fantastic, but they are decent for the system. The important
part is that you can tell what the obstacles and course layout is with
a quick look, which is all you need to know to play the game.
I give the graphics: 6/10
Sound:
The game has race car sounds and music but they are not quite as
great as more modern games. Mute the sound and play your favorite
music and you will enjoy the game more than with the original sounds.
I give the sound: 2/10
Replayability:
Well, there are no new storylines since there isn't much of a story
but you can play the game again as many times as you want to improve
your skills. Then invite a friend over and watch the person cry as you
demonstrate your mastery of the game.
I give the replayability: 6/10
Challenge:
The later courses are much harder than the starter courses, but by
then you hopefully will have made the right choices for upgrades. The
right choice makes the game almost as easy the whole way through. The
wrong choices results in a thrown console and a night crying to
yourself in the corner of your room.
I give the challenge: 7/10
Frustration:
If you make the wrong choices for upgrades then you become very
frustrated. However, there are many good combinations and only a few
bad ones so chances are you will have an enjoyable experience.
I give the frustration: 4/10
Value:
This game is worth buying for no more than five dollars. It is nice
to have if you can find it but don't spend a lot of money on this game
because it isn't worth it.
I give the value: 5/10
Overall:
Overall this game was decent for its time and was both addictive
and enjoyable to play with my friends. I recommend you play this game
at least once. Decent gameplay and graphics plus the need to develop
your own skills results in a fun game that accomplishes what the game
was designed for.
I give R.C. Pro Am: 7/10
Conclusion:
This game will get your blood pumping and if your practice enough
you will win lots of races and money. Showing off to your skills to
your friends makes you look both professional as well as intelligent.
