Game Name:
Tecmo Cup Soccer Game
System:
NES
Genre:
Sports / RPG
Developer/Publisher:
Tecmo |
Introduction:
Well, you may think this is another arcade soccer game. But no,
it's more like a role-playing-soccer-game. Decision-based.
Story:
You play the role of Robin Field, a rising soccer star, and you
gotta lead your team to victory. First the National League, then the
World Cup. And it's great!
Gameplay:
Good. Just, DON'T think of this as an arcade game. It's maybe a
little like Final Fantasy, but soccer, and your level rises as you
progress. You get new and better shots, and you even get some
double-techniques between players (like the great pass between Robin
and his brother). Works greatly.
I give the gameplay: 9.5/10
Graphics:
Good graphics for the NES. May get a little repetitive, but doesn't
it often with the NES? All the stars have their own look.
I give the graphics: 9/10
Sound:
I like the sounds. Good music and nice sound effects. It all fits
the atmosphere really well.
I give the sound: 9/10
Replayability:
It's always cool to win those tight games again! Not to say to find
some new kicks or moves.
I give the replayability: 8.5/10
Challenge:
Some of the games can get tough. But your level increases, and you
can beat those teams after a while. And nothing is cooler than having
your goalie CATCH the opponent's best shot in the finals! I remember
we used to be SO excited about going to the World Cup with my friends.
I mean, getting all the best players on your team...Oh yeah!
I give the challenge: 9/10
Overall:
This is a great role-playing game. And yes, RPG. People often seem
to take this as an arcade sports game, and not it is not. When you
accept it as it is, I think you'll really like it. At least I did, and
spent many enjoyably hours with it. As a kid and even get back to it
now, every now and then.
I give Tecmo Cup Soccer Game: 9/10
Conclusion:
Great RPG-oriented soccer game often suffering from mislabeling.
