Introduction:
The Lost Vikings. What a great trio. They all have to work together
to get the job done. Well, this game came out and people loved it. Its
a great game. It combines unique style puzzles with action. The
Vikings themselves will talk at the end and start of each stage, this
shows you more of their own unique personality. They make jokes and
comments about the stage. I remember renting this game when it first
came out. Me and my brother did the 2-player mode and beat stages
together. Ah, I love those Vikings.
Story:
Well, Erik the Swift, Olaf the Stout, and Baleog the Fierce have
all been kidnapped by Tomator. Now, its is up to the three Vikings,
who are now lost, to find there way home.
Gameplay:
The gameplay is one of a kind. Incredible game play style. You will
control all 3 Vikings. Each Viking has his own unique characteristics.
Erik the Swift can run very fast, he is also the only one who can
jump. He can also ram his head into things. You will mainly be using
Erik to jump over holes and jump onto platforms to get things, or to
push buttons/pull levers. Olaf the Stout carries a Great Big Shield.
He can use this to protect himself as well has his two companions. He
can also raise his shield above himself and glide. You will be mainly
using him to protect all the Vikings, and to glide to places where the
others can't reach. Baleog the Fierce has Bow and Arrows and a knife.
He will be your main offense character. He can stand behind Olaf and
be protected, then he can shoot an arrow at an enemy. But don't
misinterpret this, this game isn't all action, it's not just going
across stages killing enemies, far from it. It has a great puzzle
scheme. Yes, the enemies do cause a problem, but you will also have to
collect keys, and many more things to pass each stage. Each Viking
gets 3 Dots, if he is shot at 3 times or hit three times, then he
dies. You can however get food to replenish these dots. There is even
an item that will give you a bonus 4th dot. The thing is, at the end
of each stage ALL 3 Vikings have to be at the exit, if even one is
dead, then you can't finish that stage. So, if your playing on a stage
for ALONG time, and you are near the exit but 1 of your Vikings dies,
then you might as well just restart the stage. But, you usually can't
even make it to the exit if one of your Vikings dies, they need to
work together to pass the stage. You will switch from one Viking to
the next with the L and R Buttons. There is no time limit in the
stages, which is good. You can continue as many times as you want. You
will use a password system to continue. There is a 2-player mode where
you and your buddy can control a Viking. So, you could be Olaf,
defending everyone, while your friend is Baleog, who fights an enemy.
I love the gameplay style, I love solving each stage, it does get
frustrating sometimes, but when you pass a stage, it feels so good.
I give the gameplay: 9/10
Graphics:
The graphics are good in The Lost Vikings. I really like the look
of the Vikings. The look of the enemies is very nice too. They ALMOST
look like 3-d Characters going across a screen. The background is very
nice, it has great detail. The background will change depending on the
world your on.
I give the graphics: 7.5/10
Sound:
The Sound is very good. Each world has it's own unique sound. The
Sound FX are good too. Like the sound when one of your Vikings falls
from a high place, and crashes onto the ground.
I give the sound: 6.5/10
Replayability:
This game doesn't have the best replayability, that is because it's
part puzzle. So, when you replay the game you will usually remember
how to beat every stage. This is what I do, I beat the game, then in a
couple of years when I have forgotten most of it, I play it again.
I give the replayability: 5.5/10
Challenge:
The Challenge is very good. You will have to be playing each stage
a few times to figure out how to do it, and then when you do figure it
out, something can go wrong, like you accidentally fall into some
spikes, or you just plain do something wrong.
I give the challenge: 8/10
Value:
This game is a really fun game. It's definitely on my top 10 SNES
games. Probably on my Top 10 Games of all time. I love to play this
game. Now, for value. I would say 20 to 30 Canadian. That is about 15
to 25 US. I would pay more, since I love this game. But, I think it is
definitely worth 20 bucks. 30 is a little steep. That is in Canadian
Dollars.
Overall:
Overall this game is AWESOME!!! I love this game. It has
incredible, wait, better than incredible game style, it's so unique
and cool. I just love it. The graphics are very good. I like how the
Vikings look, I don't think they could have done it better. The sound
is a perfect beat. The replayability is good for the type of game it
is. The Challenge is great, it can be frustrating. The Value is ok.
I give The Lost Vikings: 9/10
Conclusion:
The Lost Vikings is a great game that has been on many platforms.
It has been re-released on the GBA. It is basically the same game on
GBA, but without a 2-player mode and there is no password system,
there is a save feature, but the game doesn't let you go back, and do
stages over again. I don't really care about that myself, once I beat
a stage, I don't want to replay it for a few years. This game has a
SEQUEL!!! This game is a great game that I remember playing with my
Bro. when we were young. It's one of the few games we didn't fight on,
since you have to co-operate. This game is a great SNES game, I think
it's worth a try.
