Game Name: Super Mario World
System: Super Nintendo
Genre: Action
Developer/Publisher: Nintendo
Release Date: 1991
Players: 2 Alternating |
Introduction:
One of my favourite Nintendo games was Super Mario World, and my first
Super NES game. I remember being so excited getting the Super NES, then
hooking it up; turning it on for the first time to see that little ding
sound, when the Nintendo Presents came on the screen, since then I have
loved the Super Nintendo.
Story:
The story is the classic Mario Story. The Princess has been kidnapped
and you have to travel across a great distance, through many different
enemies and castles to save the Princess.
Gameplay:
The gameplay is fantastic in Super Mario World. They continued on the
fun style of Super Mario Bros. 3, but changed it quite a bit. They kept
that great map scheme, where you move Mario or Luigi across a map to each
stage. Then once you enter a stage it's up to you to get across that
stage, filled with a variety of enemies. There is a new addition to the
Mario team, thats right, YOSHI! I love the Yoshi's. As you go along
in your journey you will save Yoshi's, and in return they will help you on
your quest. (But when you've played Super Mario World 2, which is a
prequel, you will see that the Yoshi's helped you far before this.) Well,
getting back to those cute and loveable Yoshi's. Yoshi's come in 4
different colours, Green, Red, Yellow, and Blue. But you will soon see
that the Green is the most common. Well, these different colours aren't
just for show, each colour Yoshi has his or her own unique abilities. But
they will all let you ride them and let you use there long tongue for
different purposes. (Eating enemies, Eating Coins, Eating Fruit. . . .
.OK, OK! Yoshi's have 1 purpose, to EAT!.) Well, the Yoshi's aren't the
only ones with 4 stylish colours, the classic foes the koopas have
different colour shells, Green, Red, Yellow, and Blue. (And there is this
rarer koopa shell, with these crazy flashing colours, so I guess there are
5 Koopa Colours.) Well, like the Yoshi's. these colours aren't just for
show, they are a key part in the game, they connect with the Yoshi's. Now
lets talk about the Yoshi's different abilities. The thing that separates
the different colour Yoshi's is what happens when they put a koopa shell
in there mouth. For the Red, Yellow, and Blue Yoshi's, it doesn't matter
what colour Koopa shell they grab, they get the same special power from
each Shell. Red Yoshi's will be able to blow fire! Yellow Yoshi's will be
able to make a ball of sand on each side of it's body that will destroy
enemies, and the Blue Yoshi will be able to FLY!!! Well, the green Yoshi
has all of these powers, but it just depends on what colour shell that
Green Yoshi grabs. When a Green Yoshi eats a red shell, he/she blows fire,
yellow shell he/she will have the ball of sand attack, and a blue shell
will make him/her able to fly. Well, what about that Green Shell? Nothing
really, you will be able to spit it out at enemies. Well, I have been
writing about those loveable Yoshi's for so long, I gotta talk about the
rest of game. The game is the great side scrolling action you expect from
Super Mario. He will enter each stage and try to make it across the stage
to the end, but he will have to avoid a whole lot of cool new and old
enemies. He will have his classic items, Mushroom, Fire Flower, and Star.
But they didn't take those cool suits from Super Mario Bros. 3! I guess
those suits will solely remain with the game that made them great. But
they have new suits. There is a feather that will make you fly. (OK!
maybe a feather is just a cheap rip-off of the leaf in Super Mario Bros.
3, but without the raccoon ears and tail, this time you get a cape.) WAIT
A SECOND!!! Come to think of it, there are no other suits, thats it, just
the Mushroom, Fire Flower, Feather and Star. I never realized it until
just now, they just have one more suit then the first Super Mario Bros.
game. Well that sucks. But, don't forget the Yoshi's, the Yoshi's are what
makes up for the loss of suits. Well, you will make it across all these
cool new stages with different things to do, its just fun. Jumping is a
big part of the game, but it is in all Mario games. There are also Ghost
Houses now!!! You will have to make it across these haunted houses every
once in awhile. And then there are the Castles, with Bowsers kids once
again. (Those are great to play.) A tip for those of you who have beat the
game and want to replay castles, bring Mario or Luigi to the destroyed
castle and hold L+R and then Start. I found that out with just dumb luck
one day when I was playing. What else is there in this game, Oh Ya. They
have given the Maps a bigger part in the game. Stages aren't represented
by a number now, but rather a different coulored dot. It will either be
red or yellow dot. Now, this is key in the game. A yellow dot stage will
have only 1 ending, but a red dot stage will have 2 endings!!! Yes, that
is quite different. The 2 endings play major role in the game and spices
the stages up a bit. There is the basic ending which is in every stage,
where you just cross a finish line, and then there is the second ending.
Where you have to find a key and bring it to a key hole, that can be
difficult in some stages. And you may ask, what's the point in doing both
endings. Well, routes in the map in Super Mario World aren't already
there, after you beat a stage the route will be drawn to the next stage.
And that is where the red dots with there 2 endings come in to play. Both
ending will give you to a different route. Now it is actually possible to
make a route that would get you to Bowser in a matter of 13 stages!!! I
definitely suggest playing the full game, if your playing for the first
time, it is just more fun that way; that route is more for a person who
has beat the game a few times and doesn't have his/her old save file, and
just wants to quickly beat Bowser. There are a couple other things to the
game, but I will leave that for the first time player of the game.
I found the game very fun, You just get right into the game from the very
first stage. You quickly and easily learn how to play the game. Once you
start you just want to keep playing until you beat it. The action is the
great, fun, amazing Mario style. This game is a MUST HAVE for a gamer.
I give the gameplay: 10/10!!!
Graphics:
The graphics are great for this game, and that is a great complement
considering this was one of the first Super Nintendo games made, if not
the first. Mario Looks great, you have more detail on his face then in the
last Mario game. He just looks fantastic. The enemies are amazing in there
look. (I just love the look of all the enemies, very well done.) The
Koopas look just like you want them to look, and the new enemies fit
perfectly in with the Mario World. The environment of each stage is very
well done. There are even cool looking backgrounds on the stages that fit
perfectly with the stage that your on. The graphics are just great.
I give the graphics: 8/10
Sound:
The sound is off the wall.. I have ALWAYS loved the sounds and music
that comes with the Mario games, and I was not let down. The background
music is amazing, it is just the perfect music for the game. The sound FX
are amazing as well, you gotta love the sound as Mario Glides with his
cape, or shoots a fireball.
I give the sound: 10/10!!!
Replayability:
The replayability is life long. I got this game years ago, and will
still play it and have fun. Super Mario Action games have always been
known for the great replayability, and this one stands tried and true to
that. If you like the game you will be able to replay it for life.
I give the replayability: 9/10
Challenge:
I like to rate the challenge of games by how hard it is when you first
play the game, as you should. This is a little hard for me, because I have
completely mastered this game, and it hasn't really been that challenging
for years. But as I recall, when I first got the game it was kind of hard.
I remember I immediately knew how to play the game and got addicted to it,
but I think I did die a few times on most stages. But then again, I was
only 6 years old. But I did have Mario experience, I had been playing
Super Mario Bros. 1 and 3 over and over again since I was 4.
I give the challenge: 7/10
Value:
The value has to be great. This game is so fun, that it is worth a
great value to me. If I didn't have this game, I would definitely pay 30
Dollars for it, but thats because I love this game and need to have it. I
have been playing it for years and will continue to do so, so the value is
pretty good.
Overall:
Overall this game is ULTRA, SUPER, AMAZING!!! Sorry, I had to use more
than 1 word, this game is Da Bomb for the SNES and any Video Game System.
Its gameplay is AMAZING!!! It's Graphics are GREAT!!! It's Sound is off
the wall!!! and it's replayability is life long. This is a must have for a
gamer. If you haven't already played this game I would be quite surprised,
and would say, Go out and get this game, it will not let you down. This
game is a true legend for good reason.
I give Super Mario World: 10/10!!!
