  Game Name:
Super Metroid
System:
SNES
Genre:
Action
Players:
1
Developer:
Nintendo
Publisher:
Nintendo
Release Date:
Japan: March 19th, 1994
United States: April, 1994

Introduction:

Well, the awesomeness that is the Metroid series. This is the third installment. Samus, the ultimately cool lady, gets in trouble again.

Story:

Samus is around when a Metroid egg hatches and the little cute larva thinks of her as mother. Great, of course you can't harm it. Samus takes the larva to be examined, and the research is a huge success. Unfortunately, just when Samus has left the station, comes an attack. The station is destroyed, the larva gets stolen (BUT BY WHOM, OH YES!) and so begins a new adventure at the planet Zebes, where Samus tracks the larva....

Gameplay:

Really, really good. Some of the moves take their time to learn, but it's all worth the effort. And there's a lot of moves to learn and things to find. And everything found really feels like it's worth something, since you need new items and tricks immediately. The feel of the gaming is excellent. This game doesn't think the player as a dumb unit, it throws challenges at you, but gives a great rewarding feeling afterwards.

I give the gameplay: 10/10

Graphics:

Of course I will rate them for their time. Excellent. The monsters look weird enough, the environments look good, and most importantly, everything contributes a lot to the overall atmosphere.

I give the graphics: 9.5/10

Sound:

Really nice, and this one has the spoken sample too. Maybe the weapon sounds could be a bit fuller, but they are totally good, and contribute to the overall feel. Music is a great aspect. It really makes the atmosphere that much deeper, which (at least to me) is a huge part of a game.

I give the sound: 9.5/10

Replayability:

Lots of secret stuff here. It's always great to find another missile expansion or energy tank. And the atmosphere will drive you back for another round after a while.

I give the replayability: 8/10

Challenge:

Learning curve to the basics is short, but then there's more stuff to learn on the way. I think the difficulty level rises pretty nicely.

I give the challenge: 8.5/10

Frustration:

Some of the new moves and some bosses can be hard. Which can be of course frustrating. But you get a nice feeling when progressing. What do I give this then? I dunno! I'll give it

I give the frustration: 7.5/10

Value:

I guess this is pretty easy to find. There's the more rare "Big box set" floating around too, which is of course more valuable. For what the game is good for, I'd say it's worth much more than what you usually find it for. What do I give here? Dunno again!

I give the value: 10/10

Overall:

The controls are really firm. The atmosphere is HUGELY DEEP. Lots of things to find and to do.

I give Super Metroid: 10/10

Conclusion:

One of the true classics of the gaming world.
