Introduction:
Cool, I'm here again, with another wicked-awesome game for the
Nintendo Wii, Red Steel. That's right, I'm not a Wii virgin anymore.
Oh yeah!!!! if you love Kill Bill or The Matrix, now's your chance to
experience both styles in one game. Red Steel is a must-own game for
any Wii owner, including me.
Story:
Your characters name is Scott, and you start the game with this
Eurasian chick at a local fancy San Francisco restaurant. At first you
don't know what's going on but you realize that you're engaged to the
daughter of a Yakuza clan leader, Sato. She then gets kidnapped by a
traitor, and you have to follow them to Tokyo where a bunch of stuff
is happening. And to think saving your girlfriend is tough enough.
Gameplay:
Incredible! Remember all those FPS (First-Person Shooter) games
where you struggled with the analog sticks to get the aiming
precisely, not anymore with the Wii's infrared technology. It's the
basic principle of point-n-shoot. Not only that, you can use your Wii
Remote as a sword as well. Just by slashing through your TV screen,
and I don't mean literally, you can cut your opponents down to size.
Once you're 30-50 minutes into the game, the controls will be nothing
but a second nature to your gaming lifestyle.
I give the gameplay: 9/10
Graphics:
The graphics had me baffled. For one, the cut scenes weren't really
that creative. I don't want to be harsh to Ubisoft, but the cut scenes
are more suited for an auditorium stage. Also, during gameplay, some
areas are too dark and I can't see most of my enemies. Thank God for
the lock-on system.
I give the graphics: 6/10
Sound:
Sound gets pretty intense during Parts of the game. However, the
dialogue of the peons are repetitive. But the accents on some of the
Japanese characters are fantastic. Probably because they used Japanese
people.
I give the sound: 7/10
Replayability:
I know I shouldn't be reviewing it yet seeing as I
haven't finished it yet. But it's pretty long. I've been at it for two
weeks and I've only completed about 45% of the game. I don't really
know how long it'll take to finish it even once.
I give the replayability: ???/10
Challenge:
I like this game because of the challenge. Obviously the enemies
become harder to kill, get better aim and increase overall AI. It's
realistic in a way, though,
I give the challenge: 7/10
Frustration:
Man, I can't believe some of the parts I had trouble with had such
an easy solution. But it does tend to pop veins in my forehead.
I give the challenge: 7/10
Overall:
Overall, this game isn't so bad. Don't listen to everything the
professionals say. This game is quite decent. Possibly a Red Steel II
will come sooner than expected. What am I saying? Not yet.
I give Red Steel: 7.5/10
Conclusion:
If you enjoy either blasting your enemies with a gut full o' lead,
or slicing them to bite-sized sushi rolls, Red Steel is your game to
buy. Until my next review, stay in the Nintenzone.
