Memories/Experiences
Well, I was born after the original heyday of SMB was long
gone. I first got an experience with the game through SMB DX, not
knowing anything about it except that it was Mario. I was instantly
hooked on the game and simply could not put it down. I remember the
day I got it like it was just yesterday. Why, you ask? Because I had
got those forsaken head lice from some kid I had bumped heads with at
school and my head was itching like crazy! This actually acted as a
great motivator, as I would tell myself, "You can only scratch once
you beat the level, you can only scratch once you beat the level." (It
worked too!) I have long since been cured of that, however. It wasn't
until the year 2001 that I would become acquainted with the real NES
version of this game. It happened when I had gone to visit a friend, I
looked up in his closet and saw a large box labeled "ACTION SET" and I
asked him what on earth it was. We went into the other room and he set
his NES up. I was surveying the rather large cartridges and happened
across "Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt" and said "Hey, this looks sort of
like SMB DX". I put in the game, then lo and behold, it WAS SMB DX,
sans SMB For Super Players/Lost Levels/2. I haven't played SMB DX in a
very long time, I have always played on the NES (I bought one from
eBay) (and occasionally on the SNES version, which I also own.) and
still play it quite frequently. I would also like to add, that on that
day, I also played Duck Hunt until my arm was sore, got to world 7 in
SMB3, and got through two dungeons in Zelda II. Somehow, even though I
really like my new game systems, especially the Wii, nothing quite
beats the charm of the NES.
